Advances in powder metallurgy

Advances in powder metallurgy PDF Author: H. Danninger
Publisher: Elsevier Inc. Chapters
ISBN: 0128088591
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 71

Book Description
Ferrous powder metallurgy (PM) makes up the majority of powder metallurgy products with regard to tonnage. Improving performance is the main trend for pressed and sintered parts, in particular the introduction of cost-effective alloy elements such as Cr and Mn. Furthermore, much can be gained in ferrous PM by elaborate secondary operations. In metal injection moulding (MIM) products, there is a clear trend towards increasingly complex shapes and microsized parts. PM tool steels offer a much finer and fully isotropic microstructure compared to their wrought counterparts and the carbide content may be much higher, resulting in excellent application properties.

Book Description
Powder metallurgy (PM) is a popular metal forming technology used to produce dense and precision components. Different powder and component forming routes can be used to create an end product with specific properties for a particular application or industry. Advances in powder metallurgy explores a range of materials and techniques used for powder metallurgy and the use of this technology across a variety of application areas.Part one discusses the forming and shaping of metal powders and includes chapters on atomisation techniques, electrolysis and plasma synthesis of metallic nanopowders. Part two goes on to highlight specific materials and their properties including advanced powdered steel alloys, porous metals and titanium alloys. Part three reviews the manufacture and densification of PM components and explores joining techniques, process optimisation in powder component manufacturing and non-destructive evaluation of PM parts. Finally, part four focusses on the applications of PM in the automotive industry and the use of PM in the production of cutting tools and biomaterials.Advances in powder metallurgy is a standard reference for structural engineers and component manufacturers in the metal forming industry, professionals working in industries that use PM components and academics with a research interest in the field. - Discusses the forming and shaping of metal powders and includes chapters on atomisation techniques - Highlights specific materials and their properties including advanced powdered steel alloys, porous metals and titanium alloys - Reviews the manufacture and densification of PM components and explores joining techniques

Book Description
The manufacture and use of the powders of non-ferrous metals has been taking place for many years in what was previously Soviet Russia, and a huge amount of knowledge and experience has built up in that country over the last forty years or so. Although accounts of the topic have been published in the Russian language, no English language account has existed until now.Six prominent academics and industrialists from the Ukraine and Russia have produced this highly-detailed account which covers the classification, manufacturing methods, treatment and properties of the non-ferrous metals ( aluminium, titanium, magnesium, copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, lead, tin, bismuth, noble metals and earth metals). The result is a formidable reference source for those in all aspects of the metal powder industry. - Covers the manufacturing methods, properties and importance of the following metals: aluminium, titanium, magnesium, copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, noble metals, rare earth metals, lead, tin and bismuth - Expert Russian team of authors, all very experienced - English translation and update of book previously published in Russian

Metal Powders

Metal Powders PDF Author: Joseph M Capus
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080536328
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 241

Book Description
Metal powders are just a tiny fraction of the global metals industry, yet they play a key role in such high-profile sectors as cars and consumer electronics. The global value of metal powder consumption has risen since 2000 to over $3.7 billion from under $3 billion. Part of this increase is due to recently escalating primary metal prices. The increase in overall tonnage shipped is in the order of 20%. This fourth edition of Metal Powders: A Global Survey of Production, Applications & Markets 2001 – 2010 has been completely revised to include the most up-to-date information available, in order to provide a coherent picture of the development and status of the metal powder industry. The report is an overview of the production, applications and markets for metal and alloy powders. The market data is presented primarily in terms of tonnages because of the widely different prices of these powders. Markets for each of the metal powder types are discussed in terms of the major application areas. Market data for the main geographical areas are based on industry statistics, supplemented by company annual reports and by private estimates. Other data and forecasts have been compiled from literature surveys, personal visits and telephone interviews.* Review of metal and alloy powder consumption by type of powder and by geographical area* Market forecasts to 2010* Technical overview of metal powder production* Worldwide review of major producers

Manganese in Powder Metallurgy Steels

Manganese in Powder Metallurgy Steels PDF Author: Andrej Šalak
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 190734375X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 488

Book Description
This work in three parts presents a summary of the sintered manganese steel properties from 1948 to 2011 involving processing conditions and other characteristics. In the first and third part are given results attained by the authors based on their finding that manganese (cheapest element) during sintering evaporates and by this the vapour cleans the sintering atmospheres from humidity. The second part presents other positive properties of manganese steels in spite of the doubt of oxidation of manganese during sintering and by this excluding the sintering manganese steels what hinderd the use of manganese in production of sintered parts. All results confirm that only manganese vapour according to finding of the authors ensures effective sintering of manganese steels and parts independently on the authors mind. It follows finally from the work that manganese is possible to use for alloying of powder steels sintered also in practice in H/N atmospheres with low purity and also in pure nitrogen - cheaper than hydrogen without some of the associated problems. Current trends in the field are also presented to the reader.
