Book Description
All Eris wants is a love match… Miss Eris Tumilson longs for a love match. Unfortunately, being a wallflower who spends most of her time reading and doing embroidery isn’t the kind of thing that attracts gentlemen. But, at long last, the spinster gets her chance. Her brother arranges a marriage for her with the Duke of Jowett. When her new husband dies on their wedding night, her hopes are dashed. There will be no love match. There’s not even the prospect of a child on the way. Though a widow, she might as well still be a spinster. Then Mr. Charles Duff comes along to visit her, and something begins to stir up within her that she was determined to put behind her once and for all: the desire for a love match. All Charles wants is to prove his friend was murdered… Charles would rather focus on his investments than take a wife. But when his friend dies on his wedding night, he knows it’s not from natural causes. His friend was murdered. And he’s sure Eris did it. The problem? He has to prove it since no one believes him. So he comes up with a plan to make Eris believe he’s fallen in love with her. Little does he realize that as soon as he steps through the doorway of her townhouse, he’ll start to discover that this shy wallflower is a hidden gem among ladies…and it’ll be difficult to tell the difference between pretending to be in love and really being in love. *Charles originally showed up in Kidnapping the Viscount. Eris originally showed up in The Reclusive Earl.

Pages : 221

Book Description
Ryan and Selena Frederick were newlyweds when they landed in Switzerland to pursue Selena's dream of training horses. Neither of them knew at the time that Ryan was living out a death sentence brought on by a worsening genetic heart defect. Soon it became clear he needed major surgery that could either save his life--or result in his death on the operating table. The young couple prepared for the worst. When Ryan survived, they both realized that they still had a future together. But the near loss changed the way they saw all that would lie ahead. They would live and love fiercely, fighting for each other and for a Christ-centered marriage, every step of the way. Fierce Marriage is their story, but more than that, it is a call for married couples to put God first in their relationship, to measure everything they do and say to each other against what Christ did for them, and to see marriage not just as a relationship they should try to keep healthy but also as one worth fighting for in every situation. With the gospel as their foundation, Ryan and Selena offer hope and practical help for common struggles in marriage, including communication problems, sexual frustration, financial stress, family tension, screen-time disconnection, and unrealistic expectations.

Book Description
Valentine Silverton has enjoyed comfort and luxury his entire life. Then, all at once, the family fortune vanishes, and he’s a pauper. The only recourse he has is to find a wealthy heiress. But he doesn’t want to just find just any wealthy heiress. He wants to find one he can fall in love with. Since there are no suitable prospects in his area, he takes his friend’s advice and becomes a mail-order husband. Nelly Larson grew up on a farm, and she loves everything about it. She loves the life so much, in fact, that she got her own homestead. The last thing she wants is to be strapped to one of the men in town who think her place is in the kitchen. She’s going to keep her independence, and keeping her independence will require her to avoid marriage at all costs. Nelly’s sisters, however, can’t believe Nelly will truly be happy if she doesn’t get married. Romance, after all, is one of life’s most wonderful experiences. When they come upon Valentine’s ad, they know he’ll be perfect for her. So they take matters into their own hands and answer his ad on Nelly’s behalf. Valentine thinks Nelly is the one answering his ad, and at once, he’s intrigued by her. He has no idea what a homestead is, but he assumes that a young woman who owns land and runs her own business must have lots of money. Excited, he runs off to Omaha to marry her. The day comes when the two meet, and it’s at that time they realize they’ve been set up. Since Valentine has no money, he can’t leave Omaha. He has to marry Nelly. Even if she doesn’t have much, she has a place to live and food to eat. In exchange for marriage, he promises Nelly he won’t hinder her independence. Thankfully, she agrees to marry him. But Valentine kind of likes Nelly, and he’s determined to show her that some things are worth giving up total independence for…and love just happens to be one of them.

Wedding Toasts I'll Never Give

Wedding Toasts I'll Never Give PDF Author: Ada Calhoun
Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company
ISBN: 0393254801
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 117

Book Description
Seven essays celebrating the beauty of the imperfect marriage. We hear plenty about whether or not to get married, but much less about what it takes to stay married. Clichés around marriage—eternal bliss, domestic harmony, soul mates—leave out the real stuff. After marriage you may still want to sleep with other people. Sometimes your partner will bore the hell out of you. And when stuck paying for your spouse’s mistakes, you might miss being single. In Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Give, Ada Calhoun presents an unflinching but also loving portrait of her own marriage, opening a long-overdue conversation about the institution as it truly is: not the happy ending of a love story or a relic doomed by high divorce rates, but the beginning of a challenging new chapter of which “the first twenty years are the hardest.” Calhoun’s funny, poignant personal essays explore the bedrooms of modern coupledom for a nuanced discussion of infidelity, existential anxiety, and the many other obstacles to staying together. Both realistic and openhearted, Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Give offers a refreshing new way to think about marriage as a brave, tough, creative decision to stay with another person for the rest of your life. “What a burden,” Calhoun calls marriage, “and what a gift.”

First Corinthians Bible Commentary - a Bible commentary on First Corinthians

First Corinthians Bible Commentary - a Bible commentary on First Corinthians PDF Author:
Publisher: Brad Price
ISBN: 0984423907

Pages : 824

Book Description
This verse-by-verse commentary on First Corinthians offers a thorough but very understandable commentary on the entirety of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Since the First Corinthians letter touches on a number of different subjects, this volume also offers some special studies to more fully explore what the Bible says on additional topics like civil government, the role of women in the church, spiritual gifts, etc. If you want to have a better understanding of First Corinthians, this commentary will help you! Here is a small sample of the text: Introduction to First Corinthians 13: Some consider 1 Cor. 13 the “love chapter of the Bible” or a “parenthetical description of love,” but this chapter is actually an integral part of Paul’s discussion about spiritual gifts. Since the Corinthians were rude, jealous, and boastful, it was necessary for them “to go beyond their present pursuit. To the apostle, the development of the character of the person was superior to the exercise of the gift. His contrasts (chap. 13) are clear: gifts without love vs. gifts with love, and the permanence of love vs. the temporal nature of gifts” (Gromacki, p. 159). Stated another way, verses 1-3 affirm that spiritual gifts were worthless without love, verses 4-7 affirm that love was superior to the gifts, and verses 8-13 assert that spiritual gifts were temporal but love abides. Although 1 Cor. 13 may seem familiar to many, this chapter is often one of the most misunderstood parts of the New Testament. The Corinthians’ elevation of spiritual gifts over love is seen in places such as 12:13-25; 14:27-33, 40. It is also found by contrasting the qualities in 1 Cor. 13 with other sections of this epistle. For instance, love “suffers long” (13:4), but tongue speakers at Corinth were impatient (14:27-28). Love does not “envy” (13:4), but the Corinthians envied the gifts of others (chapter 12). Love “is not puffed up” (13:4), but tongue speakers were proud (compare 13:1). Love causes people to act in a kind and orderly way, but some of the Corinthians’ behavior was disorderly (14:23, 40). Love is not “unseemly,” but the Corinthians were at risk of unseemly behavior in their families (1 Cor. 7:36) as well as their Sunday assemblies (1 Cor. 11:2-16, 17-34). Agape love “does not seek its own” (13:5), but these Christians were seeking their own (see 1 Cor. 8 and the discussion about idol meat). Love keeps people from “rejoicing in evil” (13:6), but the Corinthians rejoiced in evil (1 Cor. 5:2, 6). There were various things that “provoked” these brethren (13:5) and it seems they were “keeping a record of evil” (1 Cor. 13:5). It was time for the members of this congregation to show some spiritual maturity and demonstrate the type of love that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes in all things, and endures all things” (1 Cor. 13:7).
