Water Quality Criteria Data Book: Organic chemical pollution of freshwater, by Arthur D. Little, inc
Water Quality Criteria Data Book
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Inorganic compounds
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
A survey of the literature dealing with inorganic chemical compounds was conducted to obtain and reference data relevant to the establishment of water quality criteria. More than 5,000 publications were reviewed. While nearly 300 inorganic species may exist in freshwater only 87 were identified in the literature. A wide distribution in concentrations in potable and polluted water was found. Data on acute toxicity, chronic toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and teratogenicity of inorganic chemicals have been tabulated. Because of the design of most of these toxicological determinations, it is difficult to extrapolate from this data to human health. Correlations have been made of minimum lethal oral dose versus maximum concentrations reported in freshwater, and of minimum chronic toxic dose versus maximum concentration reported in drinking water. Examples of inorganic species which approach a safety limit have been observed.

Quality Criteria for Water
Author: United States. Environmental Protection Agency
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Water
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
The Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 require the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to publish criteria for water quality accurately reflecting the latest scientific knowledge on the kind and extent of all identifiable effects on health and welfare which may be expected from the presence of pollutants in any body of water, including ground water. Proposed Water Quality Criteria were developed and a notice of their availability was published on October 26, 1973 (38 FR 29646). This present volume represents a revision of the proposed water quality criteria based upon a consideration of comments received from other Federal agencies, State agencies, special interest groups and individual scientists. Standards and their criteria are given for over 54 chemicals.
