Book Description
The 6th ESPRIT Conference is being held in Brussels from the 27th November to the 1 st December 1989. Well over 1500 participants from all over Europe are expected to attend the various events during the week. The Conference will offer the opportunity to be updated on the results of ongoing Esprit projects and to develop Europe-wide contacts with colleagues, both within a specific branch of Information Technology and across different branches. The first three days of the week are devoted to presentations of Esprit I projects, structured into plenary and parallel sessions; this year there is special emphasis on panels and workshops where participants can exchange ideas and hold in-depth discussions on specific topics. The different areas of Esprit work are covered: Microelectronics, Informa tion Processing Systems, Office and Business Systems, Computer Integrated Manufac turing, Basic Research and different aspects of the Information Exchange System. During the IT Forum on Thursday 30th November, major European industrial and political decision-makers will address the audience in the morning. In the afternoon, different aspects of Technology Transfer will be discussed with the participation of outside experts, and presentations on the future plans for community R&D in IT will take place.

High-Level VLSI Synthesis

High-Level VLSI Synthesis PDF Author: Raul Camposano
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461539668
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 395

Book Description
The time has come for high-level synthesis. When research into synthesizing hardware from abstract, program-like de scriptions started in the early 1970' s, there was no automated path from the register transfer design produced by high-level synthesis to a complete hardware imple mentation. As a result, it was very difficult to measure the effectiveness of high level synthesis methods; it was also hard to justify to users the need to automate architecture design when low-level design had to be completed manually. Today's more mature CAD techniques help close the gap between an automat ically synthesized design and a manufacturable design. Market pressures encour age designers to make use of any and all automated tools. Layout synthesis, logic synthesis, and specialized datapath generators make it feasible to quickly imple ment a register-transfer design in silicon, leaving designers more time to consider architectural improvements. As IC design becomes more automated, customers are increasing their demands; today's leading edge designers using logic synthesis systems are training themselves to be tomorrow's consumers of high-level synthe sis systems. The need for very fast turnaround, a competitive fabrication market WhlCh makes small-quantity ASIC manufacturing possible, and the ever growing co:n plexity of the systems being designed, all make higher-level design automaton inevitable.

The Synthesis Approach to Digital System Design

The Synthesis Approach to Digital System Design PDF Author: Petra Michel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461536324
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 424

Book Description
Over the past decade there has been a dramatic change in the role played by design automation for electronic systems. Ten years ago, integrated circuit (IC) designers were content to use the computer for circuit, logic, and limited amounts of high-level simulation, as well as for capturing the digitized mask layouts used for IC manufacture. The tools were only aids to design-the designer could always find a way to implement the chip or board manually if the tools failed or if they did not give acceptable results. Today, however, design technology plays an indispensable role in the design ofelectronic systems and is critical to achieving time-to-market, cost, and performance targets. In less than ten years, designers have come to rely on automatic or semi automatic CAD systems for the physical design ofcomplex ICs containing over a million transistors. In the past three years, practical logic synthesis systems that take into account both cost and performance have become a commercial reality and many designers have already relinquished control ofthe logic netlist level of design to automatic computer aids. To date, only in certain well-defined areas, especially digital signal process ing and telecommunications. have higher-level design methods and tools found significant success. However, the forces of time-to-market and growing system complexity will demand the broad-based adoption of high-level, automated methods and tools over the next few years.

Combinatorial Algorithms for Integrated Circuit Layout

Combinatorial Algorithms for Integrated Circuit Layout PDF Author:
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3322921069
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 715

Book Description
The last decade has brought explosive growth in the technology for manufac turing integrated circuits. Integrated circuits with several hundred thousand transistors are now commonplace. This manufacturing capability, combined with the economic benefits of large electronic systems, is forcing a revolution in the design of these systems and providing a challenge to those people in terested in integrated system design. Modern circuits are too complex for an individual to comprehend completely. Managing tremendous complexity and automating the design process have become crucial issues. Two groups are interested in dealing with complexity and in developing algorithms to automate the design process. One group is composed of practi tioners in computer-aided design (CAD) who develop computer programs to aid the circuit-design process. The second group is made up of computer scientists and mathemati'::~l\ns who are interested in the design and analysis of efficient combinatorial aJ::,orithms. These two groups have developed separate bodies of literature and, until recently, have had relatively little interaction. An obstacle to bringing these two groups together is the lack of books that discuss issues of importance to both groups in the same context. There are many instances when a familiarity with the literature of the other group would be beneficial. Some practitioners could use known theoretical results to improve their "cut and try" heuristics. In other cases, theoreticians have published impractical or highly abstracted toy formulations, thinking that the latter are important for circuit layout.

Additive Cellular Automata

Additive Cellular Automata PDF Author: Parimal Pal Chaudhuri
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9780818677175
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 372

Book Description
This book presents an extensive survey and report of related research on important developments in cellular automata (CA) theory. The authors introduce you to this theory in a comprehensive manner that will help you understand the basics of CA and be prepared for further research. They illustrate the matrix algebraic tools that characterize group CA and help develop its applications in the field of VLSI testing. The text examines schemes based on easily testable FSM, bit-error correcting code, byte error correcting code, and characterization of 2D cellular automata. In addition, it looks into CA-based universal pattern generation, data encryption, and synthesis of easily testable combinational logic. The book covers new characterizations of group CA behavior, CA-based tools for fault diagnosis, and a wide variety of applications to solve real-life problems.
