Las últimas décadas han sido caracterizadas por estudios y planteamientos relativos a la puesta en valor del territorio como atractivo turístico teniendo en cuenta sus recursos, sus habitantes y los procesos de planificación y gestión. En este marco toma fuerza la valoración de recursos culturales y naturales, el turismo y el paisaje cultural. Este último es el contenedor y el contenido de actividades turísticas que valoran los recursos autóctonos llevando a una experiencia vivencial como nueva apuesta en el turismo rural. El paisaje cultural cafetero ha sido inscrito en la Lista de Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO en 2011. Las experiencias de este territorio en turismo son recién, la conceptualización de paisajes culturales en Latinoamérica un reto nuevo. Este escrito presenta por tanto las experiencias del Quindío, Departamento de esta zona, en torno al proyecto Paisaje Cultural y sus implicancias para el diseño de un modelo de turismo cultural en sus pueblos basado en los atributos que determinan su excepcionalidad y autenticidad. Para tal fin, se realizaron procesos de planificación, investigación de patrimonio y participación hacia la interpretación patrimonial.

Resumen: Este trabajo contiene los aportes hechos sobre el componente ambiental del Paisaje Cultural Cafetero, en la consultoría firmada entre un grupo de investigadoras y la Red Alma Mater. Dicho convenio tenía como objetivo primordial elaborar las bases para una guía que incluyera los valores del Paisaje Cultural Cafetero en los procesos de ordenamiento territorial y así servir de apoyo a los planificadores de los municipios que hacen parte de este paisaje. Desde éste particular, se aportó con la identificación de sus valores ambientales, para lo cual se hizo trabajo de investigación y se tuvo en cuenta los resultados de los talleres realizados por la Ingeniera Urte Duis y su equipo de trabajo entre el 2007 y 2009, donde la comunidad reconoce diferentes valores que les gustaría conservar; con estos datos se trazaron algunas pautas para su inclusión en los Planes de Ordenamiento Territorial de los municipios que conforman este paisaje cultural y se hicieron algunas recomendaciones, útiles para la candidatura ante la UNESCO.
