Design of Buildings for Wind

Design of Buildings for Wind PDF Author: Emil Simiu
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118077377
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 262

Book Description
ASCE 7 is the US standard for identifying minimum design loads for buildings and other structures. ASCE 7 covers many load types, of which wind is one. The purpose of this book is to provide structural and architectural engineers with the practical state-of-the-art knowledge and tools needed for designing and retrofitting buildings for wind loads. The book will also cover wind-induced loss estimation. This new edition include a guide to the thoroughly revised, 2010 version of the ASCE 7 Standard provisions for wind loads; incorporate major advances achieved in recent years in the design of tall buildings for wind; present material on retrofitting and loss estimation; and improve the presentation of the material to increase its usefulness to structural engineers. Key features: New focus on tall buildings helps make the analysis and design guidance easier and less complex. Covers the new simplified design methods of ASCE 7-10, guiding designers to clearly understand the spirit and letter of the provisions and use the design methods with confidence and ease. Includes new coverage of retrofitting for wind load resistance and loss estimation from hurricane winds. Thoroughly revised and updated to conform with current practice and research.

Design of Cold-formed Steel Structures

Design of Cold-formed Steel Structures PDF Author: ECCS - European Convention for Constructional Steelwork
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3433602271
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 556

Book Description
The book is concerned with design of cold-formed steel structures in building based on the Eurocode 3 package, particularly on EN 1993-1-3. It contains the essentials of theoretical background and design rules for cold-formed steel sections and sheeting, members and connections for building applications. Elaborated examples and design applications - more than 200 pages - are included in the respective chapters in order to provide a better understanding to the reader.

Durability of Post-tensioning Tendons

Durability of Post-tensioning Tendons PDF Author: fib Fédération internationale du béton
Publisher: fib Fédération internationale du béton
ISBN: 288394055X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 279

Book Description
In some countries durability problems with post-tensioning tendons have in the past led to fairly restrictive regulations. Improvements to execution procedures have been developed since, and new or improved prestressing systems have been proposed, too. This development was, of course, subject of discussions in fib Commission 9 Reinforcing and Prestressing Materials and Sytems and in IABSE Working Commission 3 Concrete Structures. It was decided to organise a workshop with the aim to review the different aspects of the problems encountered and to discuss solutions available today. Keynote speakers from various countries were invited to contribute. Their papers are published in this bulletin, grouped together under the following themes: Inventory and condition (6 papers) Investigation and repair (5 papers) Technical progress (4 papers) Strategies for improvement (6 papers) Supported by the international federation for structural concrete fib, and the international association for bridge and structural engineering IABSE, the workshop took place on 15-16 November 2001 at Ghent University, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Magnel Laboratory for Concrete Research, whose director also chaired the Scientific Committee and edited the bulletin. It needs to be emphasised that in the bulletin invited experts present their individual views. Although not yet discussed in any of the association's working bodies, the highly topical contents of the bulletin is believed to be of general interest to fib's members and to document a starting point for future work in this field. Therefore, the Council of fib agreed to exceptionally publish these papers within fib's series of Bulletins.

Reinforced Concrete

Reinforced Concrete PDF Author: J. G. MacGregor
Publisher: Scarborough, Ont. : Prentice Hall Canada
ISBN:
Category : Reinforced concrete
Languages : en
Pages : 1064

Book Description
This text is intended primarily for third- or fourth-year Civil Engineering students at Canadian universities. It can also be used in graduate courses. Thoroughly Canadianized, this text provides accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive coverage of Canadian engineering design and practice. The First Canadian Edition of Reinforced Concrete has been adapted from the U.S. third edition text to reflect the Canadian concrete design code: A23.3-94 Design of Concrete Structures issued by the Canadian Standards Association. With the exception of the CPCA Concrete Design Handbook, this is the first Canadian textbook that is compatible with the current Canadian design code. (The CPCA Handbook, while used in many Canadian engineering programs, is not considered an adequate learning tool for students). In our book, the theory and practice of reinforced concrete design is explained in a systematic and clear fashion--with an abundance of step-by-step worked examples, illustrations, and diagrams. The focus is on preparing students to make the many judgement decisions required in reinforced concrete design. Lead author James MacGregor is a renowned authority on reinforced concrete design. He has been a distinguished teacher and a member of various code committees in Canada.
