Contexte. La création du D.E.S, (2004) a participé à l’universitarisation de la médecine générale. Ce D.E.S et les stratégies nationales de santé promouvant la médecine générale devaient lutter contre la méconnaissance et la faible attractivité de cette spécialité. La responsabilité sociale des facultés de médecine était de former des médecins compétents. L’objectif principal de cette étude était de déterminer le pourcentage d’internes Stéphanois, installés en médecine générale ambulatoire sur une période de 10 ans (2004-2014). L’objectif secondaire était de déterminer le devenir des autres étudiants. Méthode. Une étude quantitative observationnelle descriptive transversale a été menée sur 464 internes Stéphanois inscrits au D.E.S de médecine générale de 2004 à 2014. Résultats. Parmi les 464 internes formés en D.E.S de médecine générale entre 2004 et 2014, 36% se sont installés en médecine générale ambulatoire. Le délai moyen d’installation en soins primaires était de 12.6 mois. Il a diminué au fil des années. Les hommes s’installaient plus vite après leur thèse (9 mois environ) que les femmes (15 mois). Les internes Stéphanois s’orientaient majoritairement vers un exercice en groupe et en semi rural. 22% des internes étaient remplaçants, 35% des internes exerçaient à l’hôpital. 3% étaient salariés en ambulatoire, 2% avaient un mode d’exercice particulier exclusif. 8 médecins sur 10 exerçaient dans la région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes et 7/10 dans la Loire. Conclusion. Le pourcentage d’installation en soins primaires des internes Stéphanois semble supérieur à la moyenne nationale avec un délai d’installation plus court. La création de stages ambulatoires en soins primaires en autonomie supervisée était concomitante de la franche diminution de ce délai. L’exposition à son futur métier et un encadrement facultaire rassurant semblent accélérer et favoriser les installations en médecine générale ambulatoire.
