Cette thèse offre un aperçu de la formation initiale du chirurgien dentiste sur quatre continents différents : l’Amérique, l’Afrique, l’Asie et l’Europe. Nous décrivons cette formation au sein de neuf pays : la Tunisie, le Liban, les Etats-Unis, le Brésil, l’Inde, la Chine, le Japon, l’Islande et le Royaume-Uni. Le nombre d’année d’études oscille entre quatre et six ans selon les pays. Tous les pays présentés possèdent des facultés dentaires publiques et privées, excepté la Tunisie, l’Islande et le Royaume- Uni qui ne possèdent à l’heure actuelle que des institutions publiques. Après avoir fourni quelques notions-clés concernant le pays, nous abordons pour chacun d’entre eux : les conditions d’admission, le profil des étudiants et le coût des études, l’enseignement universitaire (corps enseignant, méthodes d’enseignement et contenu de celui-ci), le département clinique, les examens et leur notations et enfin les possibilités post-universitaires.

Résumé : La formation initiale et continue du chirurgien-dentiste évolue et diffère selon les pays. Elle est en constante évolution et plus particulièrement actuellement où la question d'un internat obligatoire se pose. En France, seulement trois spécialités sont reconnues contrairement à d'autres pays comme le Chili, où une dizaine de spécialités existent. Nous avons voulu comparer la formation du chirurgien-dentiste français à l'échelle internationale. Pour ce faire, cette comparaison se base sur trois pays : France, Chili et Japon afin d'avoir un comparatif entre trois continents différents. Nous nous sommes intéressés à l'analyse de la formation initiale comprenant plus particulièrement l'exploration des outils d'enseignements et des compétences acquises du chirurgien-dentiste, ainsi qu'à la formation continue. Ces modèles sont basés sur les facultés d'odontologie suivantes : la faculté de chirurgie-dentaire de Strasbourg, la facultad de Odontologia de la Universidad de Chile, the Health Science University of Hokkaido. Une enquête auprès des étudiants de ces 3 facultés a également été réalisée afin d'apporter un point de vue subjectif. Le but de ce travail est de faire ressortir les points positifs et négatifs de la formation du chirurgien-dentiste de ces trois facultés afin d'offrir un point de vue original et de nouvelles perspectives au système d'enseignement actuel.

L'@apport de la vidéo dans la formation du chirurgien-dentiste est un des outils essentiels dans les moyens que compte l'enseignement, surtout pour un métier qui se trouve être très manuel. Cependant, l'utilisation de cet outil, est encore trop souvent négligé ou utilisé au dessous de ses possibilités actuelles. L'utilisation de cet outil demande un apprentissage des codes qui réagissent la communication audiovisuelle. Ce sont ces codes qui permettront l'élaboration d'un bon scénario et une utilisation adéquate de la vidéo dans la formation universitaire et post-universitaire. Si aujourd'hui, les moyens matériels sont à la portée d'un plus grand nombre, ce sont les moyens humains qui seront déterminants dans la conception d'un vidéogramme, cela nécessite de : connaître les codes qui réagissent la communication audiovisuelle; élaborer un scénario précis ; avoir la connaissance du matériel utilisé ; et surtout déléguer un poste exclusivemment au service de la vidéo ou faire appel à un prestataire. "Pour être efficace, il faut que la formation soit attrayante." La vidéo peut être utilisé sous diverses formes, passant d'un simple attrait supplémentaire, à une reforme complète de la manière d'enseigner.

The fact that one would contemplate publication of a book such as this indicates both the maturity and the growth of activity that have taken place in the field of psycholinguistics over the past few decades. More over, the fact that psycholinguists and/or scholars of the history of ideas are interested in the history of their subject clearly demonstrates that much has been accomplished, and the time is indeed ripe for the reassess ment of whence we have come. In addition, perhaps this interest in our historical past suggests that psycholinguistics is at a critical stage in its development. There are many scholars who believe that this critical stage manifests itself primarily in a search for a new paradigm. It would seem only reasonable to suggest that when members of a profession are search ing for something new, more than likely they will take time to reflect on the past in the hope that it will facilitate the fulfillment of their quest. This book as such reflects a wide-ranging search for historical roots over a millenium of research in the psychology of language and thought.
