Ce mémoire nous a amené à comprendre qu'un travail en collaboration entre orthoptistes et orthophonistes est nécessaire si l'on souhaite aider l'enfant le plus efficacement possible.

Une altération de la motricité oculaire conjuguée et de la vision binoculaire peut-elle entrainer des troubles de la lecture ? La perception visuelle représente une contrainte sur la lecture. Un dépistage précoce des troubles ophtalmologiques (acuité visuelle notamment) est pratiqué en maternelle. Par contre la vision fonctionnelle en lecture et notamment les troubles de la motricité oculaire conjuguée et les troubles de la vision binoculaire ne sont pas dépistés. Pourtant ils peuvent être source de difficultés dans les apprentissages de l’enfant (confusion visuelle). Nous avons donc créer un outil de dépistage de ces troubles à destination des orthophonistes pour les sensibiliser aux conséquences de tels troubles sur la lecture, et pour aussi leur permettre d’informer les parents et d’orienter l’enfant vers un orthoptiste, si besoin est. Cet outil est composé d’un livret d’information et d’un test de dépistage. La fiabilité de ce test a été établie sur la comparaison entre une trentaine de pré-tests établis par les orthophonistes et une trentaine de bilans orthoptiques correspondants. Cet outil doit servir de trait d’union entre orthophonistes et orthoptistes pour une prise en charge plus globale et plus efficace de l’enfant.

For instance, brain-based learning methods are flourishing but few have been rigorously tested using well-controlled procedures. Neuro-rehabilitation programs can be based upon a relatively low number of patients and controls or on large clinical trials to test for the efficiency of new treatments. One of the most fascinating problems in Behavioural Neurology is the question of the cerebral organization for language during childhood. Acquired aphasia in children, albeit rare, is a unique circumstance in which to study the relations between language and the brain during cerebral maturation. Its study further contributes to our understanding of the recovery processes and brain plasticity during childhood. But while there is a great amount of information and experimental work on brain-behaviour relationships in adult subjects, the literature about the effects of focal brain lesions in children is both exiguous and scattered throughout scientific journals and books. We felt it was time to organize a meeting where scientists in this field could compare their experiences and discuss ideas coming from different areas of research. A workshop on Acquired Aphasia in Children was held in Sintra, Portugal, on September 13-15, 1990, and attended by 44 participants from 13 differents countries. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal and the group was kept small to achieve this effect. It was a very lively and pleasant meeting. Some consensus was indeed arrived at concerning methodological problems, definition of terms, and guidelines for future research.
