Book Description
When I started writing poetry, thirty years ago, I never imagined that I would be doing it for this long and touch so many peoples lives in different and fascinating ways. When I write, my first purpose is to express how I feel about something and get my emotions on paper. This has become to me in many ways a sort of therapy that allows me to deal with something creatively and at times hopefully find an answer. I also tend to write about situations that I’m trying to figure out or things that are bothering me. I always try to make my poems contain a large amount of imagery so that someone reading one of my them feels like they have entered my world for a little bit. Often that world is full of humor but also mixed with passion, heartache and hope. My poems have covered subjects like our current pandemic, schooling, the trials and tribulations of all kinds of relationships, just to name just a few. I want someone to read one of my poems and be able to find what it means to them. I have realized that a poem can mean different things to different people. I love to pull the heart strings but also entertain and make people laugh with my poems . What started as a creative writing class at UCR back in 1991, has turned into one of my passions. I hope you can find the beauty of my poems, the humor , the emotion, and share them with your friends. So enjoy the voyage through my mind. Strap on your seatbelt and be prepared for a journey that may take you to places you have never been before and maybe to a few places you have visited as well.

Journey Into the Mind's Eye

Journey Into the Mind's Eye PDF Author: Lesley Blanch
Publisher: New York Review of Books
ISBN: 1681371936
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 401

Book Description
A stunning tale set in England, Paris, and Moscow, chronicling Blanch's love for an older Russian man and the passionate obsession that takes her to Siberia and beyond. “My book is not altogether autobiography, nor altogether travel or history either. You will just have to invent a new category,” Lesley Blanch wrote about Journey into the Mind’s Eye, a book that remains as singularly adventurous and intoxicating now as when it first came out in 1968. Russia seized Lesley Blanch when she was still a child. A mysterious traveler—swathed in Siberian furs, bearing Fabergé eggs and icons as gifts along with Russian fairy tales and fairy tales of Russia—came to visit her parents and left her starry-eyed. Years later the same man returned to sweep her off her feet. Her love affair with the Traveller, as she calls him, transformed her life and fueled an abiding fascination with Russia and Russian culture, one that would lead her to dingy apartments reeking of cabbage soup and piroshki on the outskirts of Paris in the 1960s, and to Siberia and beyond.

Journey of the Mind: How Thinking Emerged from Chaos

Journey of the Mind: How Thinking Emerged from Chaos PDF Author: Ogi Ogas
Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company
ISBN: 1324006587
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
Two neuroscientists reveal why consciousness exists and how it works by examining eighteen increasingly intelligent minds, from microbes to humankind—and beyond. Why do you exist? How did atoms and molecules transform into sentient creatures that experience longing, regret, compassion, and even marvel at their own existence? What does it truly mean to have a mind—to think? Science has offered few answers to these existential questions until now. Journey of the Mind is the first book to offer a unified account of the mind that explains how consciousness, language, self-awareness, and civilization arose incrementally out of chaos. The journey begins three billion years ago with the emergence of the universe’s simplest possible mind. From there, the book explores the nanoscopic archaeon, whose thinking machinery consists of a handful of molecules, then advances through amoebas, worms, frogs, birds, monkeys, and humans, explaining what each “new” mind could do that previous minds could not. Though they admire the triumph of human consciousness, Ogi Ogas and Sai Gaddam argue that humans are hardly the most sophisticated minds on the planet. The same physical principles that produce human self-awareness are leading cities and nation-states to develop “superminds,” and perhaps planting the seeds for even higher forms of consciousness. Written in lively, accessible language accompanied by vivid illustrations, Journey of the Mind is a mind-bending work of popular science, the first general book to share the cutting-edge mathematical basis for consciousness, language, and the self. It shows how a “unified theory of the mind” can explain the mind’s greatest mysteries—and offer clues about the ultimate fate of all minds in the universe.
