Assembly Codes

Assembly Codes PDF Author: Matthew Hockenberry
Publisher: Duke University Press
ISBN: 1478013036
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 164

Book Description
The contributors to Assembly Codes examine how media and logistics set the conditions for the circulation of information and culture. They document how logistics—the techniques of organizing and coordinating the movement of materials, bodies, and information—has substantially impacted the production, distribution, and consumption of media. At the same time, physical media, such as paperwork, along with media technologies ranging from phone systems to software are central to the operations of logistics. The contributors interrogate topics ranging from the logistics of film production and the construction of internet infrastructure to the environmental impact of the creation, distribution, and sale of vinyl records. They also reveal how logistical technologies have generated new aesthetic and performative practices. In charting the specific points of contact, dependence, and friction between media and logistics, Assembly Codes demonstrates that media and logistics are co-constitutive and that one cannot be understood apart from the other. Contributors Ebony Coletu, Kay Dickinson, Stefano Harney, Matthew Hockenberry, Tung-Hui Hu, Shannon Mattern, Fred Moten, Michael Palm, Ned Rossiter, Nicole Starosielski, Liam Cole Young, Susan Zieger

Electronic Bills of Lading

Electronic Bills of Lading PDF Author: Oluwaseun Ajaja

Pages : 22

Book Description
The starting point of any discuss on electronic bill of lading must as of necessity commence with the explanation of what a bill of lading is. A Bill of Lading is a document issued by, or on behalf of, a carrier or master to a sender, known as the shipper or consignor, which covers the carriage of goods destined to an ultimate receiver, known as the consignee. The bill of lading generally evidences the seller's delivery of goods to an independent entity (the carrier) which takes over, inter alia, responsibility for the delivery to an ultimate buyer. The advancement of technology was the fulcrum upon which the electronic Bill of Lading lies. It is a recent development introduced to facilitate international trade and to reduce paper documents associated with international trade. The attendant complexities of modern day commerce have rendered obsolete the traditional means of transportation of goods over the sea as evidenced by a bill of lading. An electronic bill of lading is ordinarily the functional equivalent of a paper Bill of Lading. It clearly imitates the contents and functions of a paper bill of lading. The attendant relative novelty of this concept is the raison d'être for this write up. The writer attempts to roll back the frontiers of ignorance by critically analysis and explaining what an Electronic Bill of Lading entails and its importance in this jet age.

Ocean Bills of Lading

Ocean Bills of Lading PDF Author: A. Athanassios N. Yiannopoulos
Publisher: Martinus Nijhoff Publishers
ISBN: 9780792333616
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 316

Book Description
The main thrust of this volume is the use of electronic bills of lading in lieu of the traditional documents. The advantages of electronic bills of lading are many, including lower cost, higher efficiency, improved security, and speedier delivery of goods at the end of the voyage (the collection of reports focus upon bills of lading for the international carriage of goods by sea). According to the contributors, the use of electronic bills of lading is, essentially, a business rather than a legal decision. The law may provide the legal framework for the function of electronic bills of lading in the same way and with the same effects as the traditional bills of lading. However, business interests will eventually determine whether the availability of, and the economic incentives for, the use of the electronic bills of lading outweigh concerns for privacy and the safeguarding of trade secrets, for accuracy of information, and for security transactions and acquisition. Such concerns call for technological rather than legal solutions. This book ahould appeal primarily to practitioners who are interested in economics and commerce.
