Book Description
* Including a detailed annotation about the English reformation The Westminster Shorter Catechism (also known simply as the Shorter Catechism, hereinafter referred to as the WSC) was written in the 1640s by English and Scottish divines. The assembly also produced the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Westminster Larger Catechism. The three documents are considered by many Protestants to be the grandest doctrinal statements to come out of the English Reformation. Completed in 1647, it was presented to the Long Parliament on 14 April 1648. The purpose of the Shorter Catechism is to educate lay persons in matters of doctrine and belief. The WSC is in a simple question and answer format to facilitate memorization. Typically, parents and the church would use the shorter catechism to train their children in the ways of the Lord. New converts are also given the WSC as well as the Confession of Faith and Holy Scripture to study. Various denominations have used the Westminster Confession and Catechism to instruct their members. Book Description
For centuries, countless Christians have turned to the Westminster Standards for insights into the Christian faith. These renowned documents—first published in the middle of the 17th century—are still considered by many to be some of the most beautifully written summaries of the Bible's teaching ever produced. Church historian John Fesko walks readers through the background and theology of the Westminster Confession, the Larger Catechism, and the Shorter Catechism, helpfully situating them within their original context. Organized according to the major categories of systematic theology, this book utilizes quotations from other key works from the same time period to shed light on the history and significance of these influential documents.

These 15 articles were chosen by Testamentum Imperium Founder Kevaughn Mattis with Michael G. Maness from among 163 articles published in the 2011 online journal. Each author was chosen for their expertise and decades of experience in the practice of pastoral care in their unique fields. How the practicality of grace applies in suicide, sex addiction, sexual assault, shame, hospital or prison chaplaincy, even in eschatology and forgiveness is covered by these veterans in the field. The articles touch a broad scope of affliction from physical to moral dilemmas. And part of the choice was not to find from the 163 those who see eye-to-eye. We desired to share the unique expertise. Each author is a weathered captain who has ferried souls across tumultuous waves of grief, confusion, self-control, and internal torment to a port of healing and peaceful victory. The Unconditional Freeness of the Gospel

The Unconditional Freeness of the Gospel PDF Author: Thomas Erskine Esq
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1666756407
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 129

Book Description
When Scottish lay theologian Thomas Erskine's book The Unconditional Freeness of the Gospel was published in 1828, it provoked a storm of controversy throughout his Calvinist homeland. The ideas expressed in the book were violently attacked as being radical, unwarranted, and heretical, and yet, by the turn of the twentieth century, those same ideas that had been so heatedly condemned when first presented had become common stock in the Christian world--ideas such as the universal Fatherhood of God, the universal atonement of Christ, and a gospel that was meant to be proclaimed freely to all people. This new and unabridged edition of Thomas Erskine's classic work has been fully and helpfully annotated. It includes an introduction to Thomas Erskine and his theology by the editor, Richard Leimbach, and a final chapter consisting of further readings from Erskine's letters and books. The book will surely be a welcomed addition for anyone interested in the development of Christian theology in the early nineteenth century.
