A Determination of Diffusion Coefficients for Gaseous Systems at Various Temperatures
Author: Roger A. Strehlow

Category : Diffusion

Pages : 262
Book Description
The transport property which is most fundamentally related to forces between unlike molecules is the ordinary diffusion due to concentration gradients. Unfortunately, this property and its dependence upon temperature have not been systematically studied experimentally, with the result that the literature does not contain the data necessary to obtain good force constants for the introduction of unlike molecuels. The present work describes an experimental method for determining diffusion coefficients, based on the variation of thermal conductivity with composition in binary mixtures which is capable of being used over a wide range of temperature. Experimental results for the systems n-butane-hydrogen, sulfur hexafluoride-hydrogen, argon-hydrogen, and argon-helium are given for a temperature range from 10°C. to 140°C.
