The Ministry of the Missional Church

The Ministry of the Missional Church PDF Author: Craig Van Gelder
Publisher: Baker Books
ISBN: 1441200592
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 200

Book Description
In a time when churches are focusing on finding strategies and techniques to guarantee success, a movement toward the missional church is emerging. Missional churches are communities created by the Spirit with a unique nature and identity. Purpose and strategies of the church are derivative dimensions, the activities that flow naturally from the church that is focused on Spirit-led ministry. The Ministry of the Missional Church leads pastors, ministry leaders, and laypersons through three simple arguments--the church is; the church does what it is; the church organizes what it does--in order to make sense of how missional churches work. And by focusing the work of the church as the work of the Triune God, this unique book will change the way readers think about the church and the world.

The Ministry of the Spirit

The Ministry of the Spirit PDF Author: Roland Allen
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1610975979
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 241

Book Description
Roland Allen is renowned for his original solutions to dilemmas about mission. His principal works were written in the opening decades of the twentieth century, yet his radical ideas still resound in today's church. The Ministry of the Spirit brings together some of his shorter pieces which have long been unavailable, enabling today's readers to delve deeper into Allen's ideas. Among them are "Pentecost and the World," "Non-Professional Missionaries," "Mission Activities," and an abbreviation of "The Case for Voluntary Clergy." The writings collected in The Ministry of the Spirit sit with Allen's better-known work and are no less penetrating and suggestive for the mission of the church. Allen's fundamental belief in centrality of the work of the Holy Spirit to Church life shapes his conclusion. As Professor Lamin Sanneh says in his Foreword: it is 'hard to believe that Allen first broached these ideas nearly a hundred years ago, for they are so redolent with contemporary meaning.'Roland Allen's experience as a missionary in North China led him to re-assess radically the missionary principles of the Western churches. His work, recognized as prophetic even in his own lifetime, has taken on a new significance in the third Christian millennium.

The Spirit and the Secular

The Spirit and the Secular PDF Author: Phil William Zarns
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1725269163
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 115

Book Description
How does one make disciples and plant the church in a secular environment? Does it take technical production? Is a great venue or "mother" church necessary? Does it take a well-networked team? Tangible factors such as these are easily remedied by consulting seasoned, church planting experts. Yet, what if some obstacles to plant the church aren't tangible at all? The Spirit and the Secular examines the ways that Spirit-led Christians trust the Holy Spirit while church planting amidst a secular cultural backdrop. A review of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles traces a Spirit-led Christ and Spirit-led church as they make disciples. To better discern the challenge of what it means to be a contemporary church planter in Sweden, a historical review of Swedish culture reveals the rise of secularism alongside of the flourish of the Pentecostal church of the 1900s. What follows is a groundbreaking fieldwork study using a current, investigative interview method, Q-Methodology, measuring the perceptions of thirty church planters in Sweden who reveal their collective ideal and differing practices. The study wraps with a comprehensive analysis grounding the research in a theory of Spirit-led church planting.

He is the Spirit who inspired David to slay a lion and a bear, stirred David as he defeated the giant with a humble river rock, and He still moves within us in our churches today. The Holy Ghost-one of the three identities of the Triune God next to the Father and the Son-moves on us to save us and prepare the church to become the bride of Christ. Early in his ministry career, Kenneth E. Ishmael realized that there was much he needed to discover about the Spirit who was so integral in his church and its members' lives. Like a powerful wind, the Holy Spirit moved through his congregation, and he soon recognized the formidable authority working within him. He needed to know this Spirit better from the most complete and accurate source: God's Word. In this profound work of biblical analysis, Kenneth E. Ishmael digs to the roots of the Holy Spirit's identity, purpose, work, and historical significance through the words of the Bible. Walking through the Spirit's work from Genesis all the way through the book of Revelation, this practical guide illustrates how the Spirit has given new life, strengthened the weak, and prepared disciples for Christ. Pastors and churchgoers alike will find a foundation of knowledge here that is simply essential for complete understanding of God and His love and purpose for us."

Great results have already been seen from individuals who respect Gods Word and value what it can bring to the Board room as well as to the church service. You will not be sorry you invested in this training for you and your ministry team. Rev. Lloyd Tremain, Paradise Community Church of the Nazarene A thorough, practical and much needed Biblically sound treatment. Wish it had been available 20 years ago when I could have use it to a great positive effect Dan Wilderman, Retired Assemblies of God Pastor the order and practical instruction presented will benefit all organizational levels of any Christian Church today. John Steffensen, Radio Host, Christ Today KKXX Radio Chico CA Hopefully this manual will lay the groundwork for pastors and churches to spread the burden and get others involved in the work of the ministry. I once had a pastor that was often unprepared for a service because he was busy helping a parishioner with some needed chore, or church maintenance, or the myriad other duties needed to keep a church going. The result was that the church stayed the same size. Some leave; others enter. But no growth was apparent despite the considerable preaching talents of the pastor. God is apparently making sure he has only the amount of people that he can handle. We learn that the ancient church had some of the same challenges we face today. Acts 6:14 says, Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. (Read this as doing manual labor.) Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; (the manual labor) but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. It was even bringing strife to the local body. What did they do? And what was the result? The first thing the apostles did was pick out people they knew to be wise and that had had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and appointed them to do practical ministerial duties (the manual labor). This freed up the apostles so they could minister the Word of God. Wow, Gods way is so simple, and our grandiose plans just waste time and get nothing done. Pastors need to learn from the apostles and appoint over this business so the pastors has more time to do the spiritual work that promotes Gods church. This manual gives a road map for accomplishing the goal of choosing and training people and tips for managing them.
