Book Description
A search for the CP-violating electric dipole (E1) direct emission contribution to the KL → [pi]+[pi]-[gamma] decay is performed using data from the 1997 KTeV/E832 experiment. Because the KL → [pi]+[pi]-[gamma] decay mode is massively dominated by the CP-violating inner bremsstrahlung (IB) and the CP-conserving magnetic dipole (M1) direct emission processes, previous analyses have neglected the E1 contribution. Therefore, this measurement is the first attempt to directly quantify the size of the E1 decay process. This E1 transition is one of the very few CP-violating processes that is accessible to experiment and, in principle, will produce new insights into the structure of the neutral kaon. The result of this analysis is that the E1 contribution is below the threshold of sensitivity, and therefore an upper bound of

Book Description
With the E731 apparatus at Fermilab, we have simultaneously collected 6859 K(L) and K(S) decays into pi+pi-gamma. Using our sample of over 370000 pi+pi- decays for normalization we have determined that the ratio GAMMA(K0 --> pi+pi-gamma)/GAMMA(K0 --> pi+pi- ) is (23.0 +/- 0.7) x 10( -3) for K(L) and (7.10 +/- 0.22) x 10( -3) for K(S), for photon energies greater than 20 MeV in the kaon center of mass. After removing the inner-bremsstrahlung contribution, we find that the photon energy spectrum of the direct emission decay of the K(L) is consistent with the presence of a vector meson propagator in the form factor.

Particle Physics Reference Library
Author: Herwig Schopper
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030382079
Category : Heavy ions
Languages : en
Pages : 632
Book Description
This first open access volume of the handbook series contains articles on the standard model of particle physics, both from the theoretical and experimental perspective. It also covers related topics, such as heavy-ion physics, neutrino physics and searches for new physics beyond the standard model. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access
