Book Description
"The reader must understand is a more forceful translation of the words usually rendered ""let the reader understand"" in Mark 13:14. Translated this way, this volume's title stresses the importance of eschatology for Bible readers and theologians. Eschatology, the study of ""the last things,"" is central to New Testament studies and, indeed, is not without importance for the Old Testament. The Bible's eschatology and its place in Christian theology must therefore be taken very seriously. The essays in this volume, most of which were presented at the Tyndale Fellowship Triennial Conference 1997, offer new and important ideas and analysis. They cover five main areas--biblical theology, Old Testament, New Testament, Christian doctrine, and practical theology--and significant contributions are made in each area "

Cultural Landscapes of Post-socialist Cities
Author: Mariusz Czepczyński
Publisher: Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.
ISBN: 9780754670223
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 232
Book Description
Since the velvet revolution of 1989, the totalitarian communist urbanscapes of central European cities have been 'cleansed' or 'recycled', bringing in new architectural, functional and social forms to transform how they look and how they are used. This book examines the culturally conditional variations between local powers and structures despite the similarities in the general processes and systems. It assesses whether these urbanscapes clearly reflect the social, cultural and political conditions and aspirations of these transitional countries and so a critical analysis of them provides important insights.

Inside Computer Understanding
Author: R. C. Schank
Publisher: Psychology Press
ISBN: 1135830398
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 305
Book Description
First published in 1981. This book has been written for those who want to comprehend how a large natural language-understanding program works. Thirty-five professionals in Cognitive Science, mostly psychologists by training, in a summer school were taught to grapple with the details of programming in Artificial Intelligence. As a part of the curriculum designed for this project the authors created what they called micro-programs. These micro-programs were an attempt to give students the flavor of using a large AI program without all the difficulty normally associated with learning a complex system written by another person. Using the authors’ parser, ELI, or story understanding program, SAM, they also gave students the micro versions of these programs, which were very simple versions that operated in roughly the same way as their larger versions, but without all the frills. Students were asked to add pieces to the programs and otherwise modify them in order to learn how they worked.
