High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers

High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers PDF Author: A.L. Kovarskii
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849342394
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 446

Book Description
High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers is devoted to covering all areas of high-pressure polymer materials science. Topics addressed include the synthesis of polymers, changes in reactivity, structural transformations, molecular dynamics, relaxation processes, deformational properties, chemical modification, and the effect of shock waves and shear stresses. The authors' contributions reflect over 60 years of Soviet study in the field of physico-chemistry conducted at the major former Soviet Institutes of Chemical Physics, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. Fundamental topics such as compressibility of polymers, polymerization under pressure, viscoelastic/deformational properties, and polymer modification are discussed with an eye toward materials development for improving physical models and methods of calculating the changing parameters of materials under pressure. The book is a valuable reference to data on mechanisms of physical and chemical processes, in addition to new experimental data for improving physical models and methods of calculating changes in material characteristics under compression loads. High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers will be an important reference for graduate students and practicing professionals in polymer chemistry and polymeric materials.

Aqueous Systems at Elevated Temperatures and Pressures

Aqueous Systems at Elevated Temperatures and Pressures PDF Author: Roberto Fernandez-Prini
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080471994
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 767

Book Description
The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) has produced this book in order to provide an accessible, up-to-date overview of important aspects of the physical chemistry of aqueous systems at high temperatures and pressures. These systems are central to many areas of scientific study and industrial application, including electric power generation, industrial steam systems, hydrothermal processing of materials, geochemistry, and environmental applications. The authors' goal is to present the material at a level that serves both the graduate student seeking to learn the state of the art, and also the industrial engineer or chemist seeking to develop additional expertise or to find the data needed to solve a specific problem. The wide range of people for whom this topic is important provides a challenge. Advanced work in this area is distributed among physical chemists, chemical engineers, geochemists, and other specialists, who may not be aware of parallel work by those outside their own specialty. The particular aspects of high-temperature aqueous physical chemistry of interest to one industry may be irrelevant to another; yet another industry might need the same basic information but in a very different form. To serve all these constituencies, the book includes several chapters that cover the foundational thermophysical properties (such as gas solubility, phase behavior, thermodynamic properties of solutes, and transport properties) that are of interest across numerous applications. The presentation of these topics is intended to be accessible to readers from a variety of backgrounds. Other chapters address fundamental areas of more specialized interest, such as critical phenomena and molecular-level solution structure. Several chapters are more application-oriented, addressing areas such as power-cycle chemistry and hydrothermal synthesis. As befits the variety of interests addressed, some chapters provide more theoretical guidance while others, such as those on acid/base equilibria and the solubilities of metal oxides and hydroxides, emphasize experimental techniques and data analysis.- Covers both the theory and applications of all Hydrothermal solutions - Provides an accessible, up-to-date overview of important aspects of the physical chemistry of aqueous systems at high temperatures and pressures- The presentation of the book is understandable to readers from a variety of backgrounds

Physical Chemistry of Fast Reactions

Physical Chemistry of Fast Reactions PDF Author: B. Levitt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468426850
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 342

Book Description
The chapters in this book are devoted to the elementary reactions of small molecules in the gas phase, with some emphasis on reactions important in combustion. The first three chapters cover experimental measurements made at high temperatures, mainly using shock waves and flames; the final chapter describes discharge flow methods near room temperature. The authors-all active in the fields they describe were asked to aim at a level intermediate between a textbook and a review, designed for readers not already familiar with this branch of chemical kinetics. We hope the book will prove especially useful to research workers in related subjects, to research students, and perhaps as source material for the preparation of lectures. The examples have been chosen to illustrate the theoretical basis of the topics rather than attempt a complete coverage. Professors Wagner and Troe describe the remarkable progress made in recent years in measuring dissociation rates for small molecules. Tests ofunimolecular reaction theories are usually made in the 'fall-off' region of pressure: the kinetics change from first order to second order as the pressure is reduced. For large molecules this region lies below atmospheric pressure and is relatively easily accessible. For molecules with four or less atoms, however, the fall-off region lies well above atmospheric pressure: it has been explored using the high pressure shock tube techniques developed by the authors.

Physical Chemistry An Advanced Treatise

Physical Chemistry An Advanced Treatise PDF Author: Wilhelm Jost
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323143474
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 684

Book Description
Physical Chemistry: An Advanced Treatise, Volume I: Thermodynamics deals with the applications of thermodynamics to mixtures, fluids, and solid systems at high pressures and temperatures, critical phenomena, practical handling of coupled gas equilibriums, and matter in electric, magnetic, and gravitational fields. This book begins with a survey of basic laws, followed by discussions on questions of stability, irreversible processes, surfaces, the third law, and a short introduction to Caratheodory's axiomatic foundation. The zeroth law of thermodynamics, gaseous mixtures, internal equilibrium in solids, thermodynamic properties of the mixture, and theory of linear differential forms are also elaborated. This publication presents a comprehensive treatment of physical chemistry for advanced students and researchers.
