The Open Vision

The Open Vision PDF Author: Horatio W. Dresser
Publisher: Jazzybee Verlag
ISBN: 3849642313
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 263

Book Description
The "Open Vision," by Dr. Horatio W. Dresser, is a book about relations with the dead. It is also a book about the life of God in the human spirit. Its art lies in the combination of these elements. The occupancy of the human soul by the divine spirit is the highest conception of the highest religions, a conception that may almost be said to attain the grandeur of the superhuman without falling into the cheapness of the miraculous. Spiritism rests on a far lower plane. Communication with the dead merely as the dead is neither high nor low; it is neutral with the same neutrality that attaches to communication with the living. But historically the instrumentalities, human and mechanical, which have furthered the alleged communication have been sordid. Dr. Dresser's object is to clear spiritism of its dross, and to raise it to a level where it can act on equal terms and in close conjunction with the life in God. Accordingly, he throws away the mediums, and what we may call for brevity the media. He has no interest in tables, no faith in experiments. In his scheme for exchanges between the two worlds, spirit is to act upon spirit without the intervention of a medium, and mind is to influence mind without the intervention of the senses.

Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open PDF Author: Isaac Lidsky
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 1101993316
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 322

Book Description
In this New York Times bestseller, Isaac Lidsky draws on his experience of achieving immense success, joy, and fulfillment while losing his sight to a blinding disease to show us that it isn’t external circumstances, but how we perceive and respond to them, that governs our reality. Fear has a tendency to give us tunnel vision—we fill the unknown with our worst imaginings and cling to what’s familiar. But when confronted with new challenges, we need to think more broadly and adapt. When Isaac Lidsky learned that he was beginning to go blind at age thirteen, eventually losing his sight entirely by the time he was twenty-five, he initially thought that blindness would mean an end to his early success and his hopes for the future. Paradoxically, losing his sight gave him the vision to take responsibility for his reality and thrive. Lidsky graduated from Harvard College at age nineteen, served as a Supreme Court law clerk, fathered four children, and turned a failing construction subcontractor into a highly profitable business. Whether we’re blind or not, our vision is limited by our past experiences, biases, and emotions. Lidsky shows us how we can overcome paralyzing fears, avoid falling prey to our own assumptions and faulty leaps of logic, silence our inner critic, harness our strength, and live with open hearts and minds. In sharing his hard-won insights, Lidsky shows us how we too can confront life's trials with initiative, humor, and grace.

Book Description

Come Up Here…the Door Is Open unveils Catherine’s numerous supernatural experiences with the heavenly realms of visions and angels, and explains why they resulted when she accepted Jesus’ invitation to enjoy a deeper spiritual life through worship. Scriptural foundations for her encounters, such as Acts 2:16-21, are provided, as are principles for accessing the heavenly realm. Come Up Here…the Door Is Open is a compelling spiritual memoir of the author’s spiritual life during periods of triumph, happiness, and sorrow. In it you’ll see how her own personal angelic visions and encounters with Jesus unshakably deepened her love for Him.

Red Moon Rising

Red Moon Rising PDF Author: Pete Greig
Publisher: David C Cook
ISBN: 0781412870
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 402

Book Description
From the Upper Room of Pentecost to Azusa Street in Los Angeles, God has used prayer movements throughout history to change the world. Over fifteen years ago, a group of students gathered for a prayer vigil in Chichester, England—and the prayers they started haven’t stopped. Out of that first meeting came 24-7 Prayer: an international movement of prayer, mission, and justice that has reached Chinese underground churches, Indian slums, Papua New Guinea jungles, ancient English cathedrals, and even a brewery in Missouri. Red Moon Rising is the story of how that movement continues today—and how each of us can be a part of the miracles God is doing through a new generation.

What Did Jesus Look Like?

What Did Jesus Look Like? PDF Author: Joan E. Taylor
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 0567671518
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 289

Book Description
Jesus Christ is arguably the most famous man who ever lived. His image adorns countless churches, icons, and paintings. He is the subject of millions of statues, sculptures, devotional objects and works of art. Everyone can conjure an image of Jesus: usually as a handsome, white man with flowing locks and pristine linen robes. But what did Jesus really look like? Is our popular image of Jesus overly westernized and untrue to historical reality? This question continues to fascinate. Leading Christian Origins scholar Joan E. Taylor surveys the historical evidence, and the prevalent image of Jesus in art and culture, to suggest an entirely different vision of this most famous of men. He may even have had short hair.
