Any good thing the United States may have to offer us in the future we shall, of course, gladly accept. We realize our imperfections as a people and are not above learning. It is characteristic of the Can adian people that, like the Greeks in the Areopagus, they are rather credulously eager just at present to tell and to hear some new thing. Young democracies are always that way. Did not James Russell Lowell once write a rather caustic essay directed against England entitled On a Certain Condescension in Foreigners? The novel, the untried, has an almost irresistible attraction for tur bulent and adventurous youth; and this applies not only to indi viduals but also to nations.
