Defoe's dates are somewhat contradictory, but we infer that his hero left the Cape in September, 1714. The next May, having touched at Madagascar and the East Indies, he reached Manila in the Philip pines. Going thence, and touching as he went at the Ladrones and Guam, he reached the west coast Of South America in eight months. About the first of the next year, he rounded Cape Horn.
