The Non-Linear Field Theories of Mechanics

The Non-Linear Field Theories of Mechanics PDF Author: C. Truesdell
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540027793
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 636

Book Description
Non-Linear Field Theories of Mechanics has become a classic treatise in the field of continuum mechanics. Originally published nearly forty years ago, it probably has influenced practically all subsequent monographs on the subject. Its main parts are: - The General Theory of Material Behavior - Elasticity - Fluidity This third edition includes the corrections made by the late C. Truesdell in his personal copy. It is annotated by W. Noll and by S. Antman who describe the monograph’s genesis and the impact it has made on the modern development of mechanics. Originally published as Volume III/3 of the famous Encyclopedia of Physics in 1965, this book describes and summarizes "everything that was both known and worth knowing in the field at the time." It also greatly contributed to the unification and standardization of the concepts, terms and notations in the field.

Fracture Mechanics Of Electromagnetic Materials: Nonlinear Field Theory And Applications

Fracture Mechanics Of Electromagnetic Materials: Nonlinear Field Theory And Applications PDF Author: Xiaohong Chen
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1908977205
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 326

Book Description
Fracture Mechanics of Electromagnetic Materials provides a comprehensive overview of fracture mechanics of conservative and dissipative materials, as well as a general formulation of nonlinear field theory of fracture mechanics and a rigorous treatment of dynamic crack problems involving coupled magnetic, electric, thermal and mechanical field quantities.Thorough emphasis is placed on the physical interpretation of fundamental concepts, development of theoretical models and exploration of their applications to fracture characterization in the presence of magneto-electro-thermo-mechanical coupling and dissipative effects. Mechanical, aeronautical, civil, biomedical, electrical and electronic engineers interested in application of the principles of fracture mechanics to design analysis and durability evaluation of smart structures and devices will find this book an invaluable resource./a

Solitons in Field Theory and Nonlinear Analysis

Solitons in Field Theory and Nonlinear Analysis PDF Author: Yisong Yang
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475765487
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 571

Book Description
There are two approaches in the study of differential equations of field theory. The first, finding closed-form solutions, works only for a narrow category of problems. Written by a well-known active researcher, this book focuses on the second, which is to investigate solutions using tools from modern nonlinear analysis.

Quantum Non-linear Sigma-Models

Quantum Non-linear Sigma-Models PDF Author: Sergei V. Ketov
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662041928
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 429

Book Description
This is the first comprehensive presentation of the quantum non-linear sigma-models. The original papers consider in detail geometrical properties and renormalization of a generic non-linear sigma-model, illustrated by explicit multi-loop calculations in perturbation theory.

Nonlinear Optical Waves

Nonlinear Optical Waves PDF Author: A.I. Maimistov
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401724482
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 668

Book Description
A non-linear wave is one of the fundamental objects of nature. They are inherent to aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, solid state physics and plasma physics, optics and field theory, chemistry reaction kinetics and population dynamics, nuclear physics and gravity. All non-linear waves can be divided into two parts: dispersive waves and dissipative ones. The history of investigation of these waves has been lasting about two centuries. In 1834 J. S. Russell discovered the extraordinary type of waves without the dispersive broadening. In 1965 N. J. Zabusky and M. D. Kruskal found that the Korteweg-de Vries equation has solutions of the solitary wave form. This solitary wave demonstrates the particle-like properties, i. e. , stability under propagation and the elastic interaction under collision of the solitary waves. These waves were named solitons. In succeeding years there has been a great deal of progress in understanding of soliton nature. Now solitons have become the primary components in many important problems of nonlinear wave dynamics. It should be noted that non-linear optics is the field, where all soliton features are exhibited to a great extent. This book had been designed as the tutorial to the theory of non-linear waves in optics. The first version was projected as the book covering all the problems in this field, both analytical and numerical methods, and results as well. However, it became evident in the process of work that this was not a real task.
