Book Description
This volume discusses the important, mainly Roman, buildings at the east end of the Corinthian Agora; the Julian Basilica and the Southeast Building, the South Basilica (immediately behind the South Stoa), and the Mosaic House adjoining it. The Southeast Building is described first in its present state, and then as it must have looked in its two main periods of use, soon after 44 B.C. and in the second quarter of the 1st century A.D. It was probably known in ancient times as the Tabularium or Library of Corinth. The adjoining Julian Basilica was, with the South Basilica, built about A.D. 40; the interior colonnades of both were rebuilt in marble in the Hadrianic period. These basilicas have a cryptoporticus on the ground floor and on the main floor an interior colonnade supporting a clerestory and three exedras. Detailed descriptions of each building are followed by a reconstruction of the pair and by a comparative discussion of floor plans. Finally, the Mosaic House is discussed and analysis of the mosaics date it about 200 A.D.

Book Description
Illustrated in color throughout, this handsome volume presents selected papers from an international symposium held in June 2001 marking the completion of a ten-year project to conserve the Last Judgment mosaic, at St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. The project was a partnership between the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, the Prague Castle Administration, and the Getty Conservation Institute. The goal of the symposium was to present the methodology, research, and results of the project, which involved conserving one of the finest examples of monumental medieval mosaic art in Europe. The volume's essays are divided into three parts, which cover the historical and art-historical context, conservation planning and methodology, and project implementation and maintenance. Topics addressed include the history, iconography, and visual documentation of the mosaic; the development and application of surface cleaning and protective coating techniques for the mosaic's glass tesserae; and post-treatment monitoring and maintenance.

Book Description
Mosaic is a decorative art with a varied history dating back to the 3rd century BC. An increasingly popular form of decoration, its versatility means it can be used to decorate both large and small areas inside and out. This book looks back at the historical beginnings, and goes on to show how complete beginners can learn to transform items such as tables, picture frames and tiles. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of mosaic design and technique, showing how to achieve movement, tone and texture in a mosaic design. These are illustrated by 24 unique projects featuring birds, fish, animals, figures and fruit. The basic techniques of mosaic are fully explained and illustrated, and ideas are given for different mosaic applications, including showers, splashbacks, floors and walls. Templates are included for each design, enabling readers to pick designs to execute their chosen application. Chapter by chapter, it builds into a complete course on designing and creating mosaics. So whether you want to decorate a mirror frame or go on to design a mosaic to decorate the entire length of your hallway, this book will form an invaluable and inspirational guide.
