From the Foreword by Reilly P. Brennan: “Understanding how transportation itself evolved requires a unique prism. The core components of vehicles today have stories and engineering journeys worth their own telling, and that is what is so exciting about the way we can learn about them in this text. Dr. Beiker’s curriculum vitae, from BMW to Stanford University to McKinsey, are a compendium of experiences that created this unique historical and biographical book.” “Sven and I are kindred spirits in the mobility world. His view on the evolution of mobility and technology illustrates why Detroit and Silicon Valley need one another.” Carla Bailo, Former President and CEO, Center for Automotive Research

Everyday Mobilities in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century British Diaries

Everyday Mobilities in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century British Diaries PDF Author: Colin G. Pooley
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 303112684X
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 247

Book Description
This book uses diaries written by ordinary British people over the past two centuries to examine and explain the nature and extent of everyday mobilities, such as travel to school, to work, to shop or to visit friends, and to explore the meanings attached to these mobilities. After a critical evaluation of diary writing, the ways in which mobility changed over time, interacted with new forms of transport technology, and varied from place to place are examined. Further chapters focus on the roles of family and life course, gender, income and class, and journey purpose in shaping mobilities, including immobility. It is argued that easy and frequent everyday mobilities were experienced by most of the diarists studied, that travellers could exercise their own agency to adapt easily to new forms of transport technology, but that factors such as gender, class, and location also created significant mobility inequalities.

Human-Automation Interaction

Human-Automation Interaction PDF Author: Vincent G. Duffy
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031107845
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 512

Book Description
This book provides practical guidance and awareness for a growing body of knowledge developing across a variety of disciplines. This initiative is a celebration of the Gavriel Salvendy International Symposium (GSIS) and provides a survey of topics and emerging areas of interest in human–automation interaction. This set of articles for the GSIS emphasizes a main thematic area: transportation. Main areas of coverage include Section A: Interaction with Vehicle Automation; Section B: HCI in Automated Vehicles; Section C: Trust in Vehicle Automation; Section D: Physical Modeling of Vehicle Cabs; Section E: Task Simulation Automation via Digital Human Models; Section F: Maintenance and Manufacturing; Section G: Smart Cities and Connected Vehicles.
