Mathematical Methods in Survival Analysis, Reliability and Quality of Life

Mathematical Methods in Survival Analysis, Reliability and Quality of Life PDF Author: Catherine Huber
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118624114
Category : Mathematics

Pages : 294

Book Description
Reliability and survival analysis are important applications of stochastic mathematics (probability, statistics and stochastic processes) that are usually covered separately in spite of the similarity of the involved mathematical theory. This title aims to redress this situation: it includes 21 chapters divided into four parts: Survival analysis, Reliability, Quality of life, and Related topics. Many of these chapters were presented at the European Seminar on Mathematical Methods for Survival Analysis, Reliability and Quality of Life in 2006.

Design and Analysis of Quality of Life Studies in Clinical Trials

Design and Analysis of Quality of Life Studies in Clinical Trials PDF Author: Diane L. Fairclough
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9781584882633
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 332

Book Description
More and more frequently, clinical trials include the evaluation of Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), yet many investigators remain unaware of the unique measurement and analysis issues associated with the assessment of HRQoL. At the end of a study, clinicians and statisticians often face challenging and sometimes insurmountable analytic problems. Design and Analysis of Quality of Life Studies in Clinical Trials details these issues and presents a range of solutions. Written from the author's extensive experience in the field, it focuses on the very specific features of QoL data: its longitudinal nature, multidimensionality, and the problem of missing data. The author uses three real clinical trials throughout her discussions to illustrate practical implementation of the strategies and analytic methods presented. As Quality of Life becomes an increasingly important aspect of clinical trials, it becomes essential for clinicians, statisticians, and designers of these studies to understand and meet the challenges this kind of data present. In this book, SAS and S-PLUS programs, checklists, numerous figures, and a clear, concise presentation combine to provide readers with the tools and skills they need to successfully design, conduct, analyze, and report their own studies.

Constructing strata of primary sampling units for the Residential Energy Consumption Survey

Constructing strata of primary sampling units for the Residential Energy Consumption Survey PDF Author: Rachel M. Harter
Publisher: RTI Press
ISBN:
Category : House & Home
Languages : en
Pages : 15

Book Description
The 2015 Residential Energy Consumption Survey design called for stratification of primary sampling units to improve estimation. Two methods of defining strata from multiple stratification variables were proposed, leading to this investigation. All stratification methods use stratification variables available for the entire frame. We reviewed textbook guidance on the general principles and desirable properties of stratification variables and the assumptions on which the two methods were based. Using principal components combined with cluster analysis on the stratification variables to define strata focuses on relationships among stratification variables. Decision trees, regressions, and correlation approaches focus more on relationships between the stratification variables and prior outcome data, which may be available for just a sample of units. Using both principal components/cluster analysis and decision trees, we stratified primary sampling units for the 2009 Residential Energy Consumption Survey and compared the resulting strata.

Risk Assessment and Evaluation of Predictions

Risk Assessment and Evaluation of Predictions PDF Author: Mei-Ling Ting Lee
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461489814
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 446

Book Description
Methods of risk analysis and the outcome of particular evaluations and predictions are covered in detail in this proceedings volume, whose contributions are based on invited presentations from Professor Mei-Ling Ting Lee's 2011 symposium on Risk Analysis and the Evaluation of Predictions. This symposium was held at the University of Maryland in October of 2011. Risk analysis is the science of evaluating health, environmental, and engineering risks resulting from past, current, or anticipated, future activities. The use of these evaluations include to provide information for determining regulatory actions to limit risk, present scientific evidence in legal settings, evaluate products and potential liabilities within private organizations, resolve World Trade disputes amongst nations, and educate the public concerning particular risk issues. Risk analysis is an interdisciplinary science that relies on epidemiology and laboratory studies, collection of exposure and other field data, computer modeling, and related social, economic and communication considerations. In addition, social dimensions of risk are addressed by social scientists.
