My Daily Actions, Or the Meteorites

My Daily Actions, Or the Meteorites PDF Author: S. Brook Corfman
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780823289493
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 88

Book Description
My Daily Actions, or The Meteorites is the result of a daily investigative writing practice, in which I was worried that a poem invested in the particulars of my life would be uninteresting--that the "ordinary" would be mundane. Instead memory, dreams, and the associative power of the imagination filled each moment with meaning, each tv show I watched or friend I spoke with, each outfit I wore or nail polish color I chose. In these poems, a combination of dread (for something approaching) and anxiety (for what might be approaching but isn't yet known) undid a sense of the present separate from climate change, global racial capitalism, whiteness, and gender-based violence, especially as I wrote as I tried to find out how my own gender fit into the world. The prose poem is the vehicle by which a recording practice ("journaling") meets the associative power of the poem.

The End of Meaning

The End of Meaning PDF Author: Matthew Gumpert
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1443839434
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 565

Book Description
The specter of the apocalypse has always been a semiotic fantasy: only at the end of all things will their true meaning be revealed. Our long romance with catastrophe is inseparable from the Western hermeneutical tradition: our search for an elusive truth, one that can only be uncovered through the interminable work of interpretation. Catastrophe terrifies and tantalizes to the extent it promises an end to this task. 9/11 is this book’s beginning, but not its end. Here, it seemed, was the apocalypse America had long been waiting for; until it became just another event. And, indeed, the real lesson of 9/11 may be that catastrophe is the purest form of the event. From the poetry of classical Greece to the popular culture of contemporary America, The End of Meaning seeks to demonstrate that catastrophe, precisely as the notion of the sui generis, has always been generic. This is not a book on the great catastrophes of the West; it offers no canon of catastrophe, no history of the catastrophic. The End of Meaning asks, instead, what if meaning itself is a catastrophe?

The Tale of the Mirror (& The Wishing Tree Poetry)

The Tale of the Mirror (& The Wishing Tree Poetry) PDF Author: Erjan J. Slavin
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 055731562X
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
"The Tale of the Mirror" is an allegory of the human predicament of having to be in the world while also having to remain true to our own ideals and dreams. Told in a voice for all ages, this story delights us with its sense of comedy, and touches on some themes that we have all been familiar with. How is it that we can be ourselves, and still enjoy our freedom in the civil world as we grow in it? This work approaches this sensitive moment in a young person's development with both amusement and wit. The rhythm of imagination is also part of the rhythm of the world, and the world is also part of the rhythm of the imagination. As simple as it is deep in idea, this poetic novel will give you a glimpse of yourself that you will want to come back to again. Included also in this hardcover volume are the celebrated "Wishing Tree" poems, and a scholarly commentary by the author.

The Tain of the Mirror

The Tain of the Mirror PDF Author: Rodolphe Gasché
Publisher: Harvard University Press
ISBN: 9780674867017
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 362

Book Description
Deconstruction is no game of mirrors, revealing the text as a play of surface against surface. Its more radical philosophical effort is to get behind the mirror and question the very nature of reflection. The Tain of the Mirror explores that gritty surface without which no reflection would be possible.
