The Future of Christian Marriage

The Future of Christian Marriage PDF Author: Mark Regnerus
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0190064943
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 289

Book Description
Marriage has come a long way since biblical times. Women are no longer property, and practices like polygamy have long been rejected. The world is wealthier, healthier, and more able to find and form relationships than ever. So why are Christian congregations doing more burying than marrying today? Explanations for the recession in marriage range from the mathematical--more women in church than men--to the economic, and from the availability of sex to progressive politics. But perhaps marriage hasn't really changed at all. Instead, there is simply less interest in marriage in an era marked by technology, gender equality, and secularization. Mark Regnerus explores how today's Christians find a mate within a faith that esteems marriage but in a world that increasingly yawns at it. This book draws on in-depth interviews with nearly two hundred young-adult Christians from the United States, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Russia, Lebanon, and Nigeria, in order to understand the state of matrimony in global Christian circles today. Regnerus finds that marriage has become less of a foundation for a couple to build upon and more of a capstone. Meeting increasingly high expectations of marriage is difficult, though, in a free market whose logic reaches deep into the home today. The result is endemic uncertainty, slowing relationship maturation, and stalling marriage. But plenty of Christians innovate, resist, and wed, and this book argues that the future of marriage will be a religious one.

The Principles of Christian Marriage

The Principles of Christian Marriage PDF Author: Uchechukwu Udensi
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 50

Book Description
The Principles of Christian Marriage was written to help Christians navigate marital relationships by following the principles laid out by God from when the man starts seeking a wife to when he is married, to God's plan regarding divorce. God instituted marriage, and he alone can set out how it should be conducted. Most people, including Christians, don't realize the enormity and sacredness of the marital life and that marriage is a covenant relationship (Malachi 2:14 KJV). One thing established in this book is that marriage is a physical representation of the spiritual relationship a Christian has with Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:32 KJV), and because of this ignorance, Satan has corrupted the sanctity of marriage with the worldly view and concept. This book also shares briefly that the purpose of marriage is first for companionship before procreation or fruitfulness. That's why a Christian should first have a personal relationship with God before he can be fruitful in the things pertaining to God. Finding a wife is conceived and birthed in the place of prayer, as we see in Abraham's servant and God making a deep sleep come upon Adam. The husband's authority in marriage is a representative responsibility, and this places the fruitfulness of the marriage on the man. He is the responsible authority in the marriage; that's why when Adam disobeyed God in the garden of Eden and shifted the responsibility to his wife, Eve, God told Adam, "Because thou hast you hearkened unto the voice of thy wife" (Genesis 3:17 KJV). Man has since been abdicating the authority God placed on him in the home to the woman. One will also see that God did not establish nor approve divorce, so Christians ought not to divorce (1 Corinthians 7).
