Beyond Hanoi

Beyond Hanoi PDF Author: Benedict J Tria Kerkvliet
Publisher: Institute of Southeast Asian Studies
ISBN: 9812305947
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 371

Book Description
This is the first book in English to examine local government and authority in Vietnam since the country's reunification in 1975. Six chapters emphasize particular villages and districts in different parts of the country, one examines a ward in Hanoi, another focuses on Ho Chi Minh City, and one compares leaders in several provinces. To contextualize conditions today, two chapters analyse local government in Vietnam's long history. The opening chapter synthesizes the findings in this book with those in other studies by researchers inside and outside Vietnam.

Governing England

Governing England PDF Author: Michael Kenny
Publisher: Proceedings of the British Aca
ISBN: 9780197266465
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Governing England examines the state of England's governance, identity and relationship with the other nations of the UK. It brings together academic experts on constitutional change, territorial politics, nationalism, political parties, public opinion, and local government both to explain thecurrent place of England within a changing United Kingdom, and to consider how the "English constitution" is likely to develop over the coming years. At a time when questions of territory and identity have grown increasingly politicised, Governing England offers a deeper academic analysis of how England and Englishness are changing. The central questions it addresses are whether, why, and with what consequences there has been a disentangling ofEngland from Britain within the institutions of the UK state, and of Englishness from Britishness at the level of culture and national identity. This volume includes competing interpretations of what has changed in terms of English nationhood.

Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe

Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe PDF Author: Centers of Disease Control
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9289051701
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 148

Book Description
What are public health services? Countries across Europe understand what they are or what they should include differently. This study describes the experiences of nine countries detailing the ways they have opted to organize and finance public health services and train and employ their public health workforce. It covers England France Germany Italy the Netherlands Slovenia Sweden Poland and the Republic of Moldova and aims to give insights into current practice that will support decision-makers in their efforts to strengthen public health capacities and services. Each country chapter captures the historical background of public health services and the context in which they operate; sets out the main organizational structures; assesses the sources of public health financing and how it is allocated; explains the training and employment of the public health workforce; and analyses existing frameworks for quality and performance assessment. The study reveals a wide range of experience and variation across Europe and clearly illustrates two fundamentally different approaches to public health services: integration with curative health services (as in Slovenia or Sweden) or organization and provision through a separate parallel structure (Republic of Moldova). The case studies explore the context that explain this divergence and its implications. This study is the result of close collaboration between the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the WHO Regional Office for Europe Division of Health Systems and Public Health. It accompanies two other Observatory publications Organization and financing of public health services in Europe and The role of public health organizations in addressing public health problems in Europe: the case of obesity alcohol and antimicrobial resistance (both forthcoming).

These Englands

These Englands PDF Author: Arthur Aughey
Publisher: Manchester University Press
ISBN: 1526142279
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 337

Book Description
The term ‘conversation’ is one of today’s jargon terms. This book explores in depth what conversation means in national terms. Its premise is that to be English is to participate in a conversation about the country’s history, politics, culture and society. The conversation changes, of course, but there is also continuity which illustrates a distinct tradition. It is a conversation, the book argues, which requires the plural notion of these Englands rather than the singularity of this England. Englishness, then, is the tone, register and idiom of it subject matters, its anxieties and certainties, differences and commonalities. The book explores the English conversation through historical, political, literary and popular voices and tries to identify the character of contemporary Englishness.

Marketization in Local Government

Marketization in Local Government PDF Author: Andrej Christian Lindholst
Publisher: Palgrave Macmillan
ISBN: 9783030324773
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Marketization is one of the most powerful reform doctrines reshaping the organization of public service delivery throughout the last four decades. This book revisits conventional ideas and models of marketization and compares how these have diffused and evolved across municipalities in England and Scandinavia. The book highlights the paths and impacts of marketization as diverse and dynamic and asks us to reconsider what and how we think about marketization. The content of the book is co-authored by researchers from four countries and builds upon comparable surveys and case-studies from two longstanding ‘spearhead’ services – parks and roads – for the implementation of marketization. The book appeals to scholars and policy makers with interests in discussions about the history and future of marketization in an international perspective.

Managing Local Authority Heritage Assets

Managing Local Authority Heritage Assets PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781848024885
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
The guidance is primarily aimed at local authority asset managers and is intended to raise the profile of heritage assets and to provide a framework of 'best practice' for their care. It is pragmatic and practical guidance which local authorities can use as they see fit and integrate into their own management arrangements. It contains a set of 'tool kits' which local authorities are encouraged to modify and use to suit their local circumstances. The changing nature of local government and the resource pressures it is facing means that the management and treatment of heritage assets will require more innovative approaches - both to safeguard them for the future and to bring them into productive use. The guidance emphasises the need to think broadly and creatively about the options for heritage assets by illustrating what is possible through reference to case studies.
