Crocs in the Cabinet

Crocs in the Cabinet PDF Author: Ben Smee
Publisher: Hachette Australia
ISBN: 0733637531
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 198

Book Description
Goings-on in Northern Territory politics from 2012-2016 may read like satire, but it is all true. These are stories you couldn't make up. This book is an instruction manual on how NOT to run a government. In the Top End, politics is not a numbers game, it is a blood sport. In comparison to Rudd, Gillard, Abbott and Turnbull, the goings-on in the Northern Territory parliament are like watching a troop of clowns throwing knives into each other's backs. CROCS IN THE CABINET is partly a serious political book, partly a riotous look at the characters, the scandals and the incompetence of Northern Territory politics. It will make you laugh, cry, wince and shake your head as you read of: - a minister with a hostess club bill - a masturbating minister and the lewd videos he sent someone other than his wife - why a minister shouted 'we are in love' on the floor of the parliament - how the Chief Minister stared down a coup - how an MP forced the evacuation of a hotel - why an MP went fishing instead of dealing with leadership matters - exactly how bonkers the NT parliament really is. Written by two of the NT NEWS's best journalists, Walkley Award-winning Ben Smee and award-winning Christopher A. Walsh, this is FEAR AND LOATHING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL meets FAWLTY TOWERS.

History of Bilingual Education in the Northern Territory

History of Bilingual Education in the Northern Territory PDF Author: Brian Clive Devlin
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811020787
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 386

Book Description
This book provides the first detailed history of the Bilingual Education Program in the Northern Territory of Australia. This ambitious and innovative program began in 1973 and at different times it operated in English and 19 Aboriginal languages in 29 very remote schools. The book draws together the grassroots perspectives of Indigenous and non-Indigenous practitioners and researchers. Each chapter is based on rich practitioner experience, capturing bottom-up aspirations, achievements and reflections on this innovative, yet largely undocumented language and education program. The volume also makes use of a significant collection of ‘grey literature’ documents to trace the history of the program. An ethnographic approach has been used to integrate practitioner accounts into the contexts of broader social and political forces, education policy decisions and on-the-ground actions. Language in education policy is viewed at multiple, intersecting levels: from the interactions of individuals, communities of practice and bureaucracy, to national and global forces. The book offers valuable insights as it examines in detail the policy settings that helped and hindered bilingual education in the context of minority language rights in Australia and elsewhere.

Weed Management Handbook

Weed Management Handbook PDF Author: Robert E. L. Naylor
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470750383
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
Weed Management Handbook updates the 8th edition of Weed Control Handbook (1990). The change in the title and contents of the book from previous editions reflects both the current emphasis on producing crops in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner, and the new weed management challenges presenting themselves. This landmark publication contains cutting edge chapters, each written by acknowledged experts in their fields and carefully drawn together and edited by Professor Robert Naylor, known and respected world-wide for his knowledge of the area. The sequence of chapters included reflects a progression from the biology of weeds, through the underpinning science and technology relating to weed management techniques including herbicides and their application to crops, leading to principles of weed management techniques. Finally a set of relevant case studies describes the main management options available and addresses the challenges of reduced chemical options in many crops. Weed Management Handbook is a vital tool for all those involved in the crop protection / agrochemical industry, including business managers, horticultural and agricultural scientists, plant physiologists, botanists and those studying and teaching BASIS courses. As an important reference guide for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying horticultural and agricultural sciences, plant physiology, botany and crop protection, copies of the book should be available on the shelves of all research establishments and universities where these subjects are studied and taught. Weed Management Handbook is published for the British Crop Protection Council (BCPC) by Blackwell Publishing.
