Book Description
Jesus of Nazareth preached a gospel of nonduality. You would not know that by listening to most Christian preachers today. But if one looks carefully, the original spiritual message of Christ can be found in the New Testament. This is not a matter of reading one's own religious perspective into the text. This is a matter of sifting the nondual wheat from the dualistic chaff. This message of the oneness of all Reality is most clearly proclaimed in the Gospel of John. In this unique book, Christian pastor and spiritual director Marshall Davis goes through the Gospel of John chapter by chapter. He shows how the Fourth Gospel is a proclamation of Christian Nonduality as taught by Jesus and the apostle John. In his interpretation of the Christian gospel, Davis draws upon non-canonical writings of early Church, as well as other spiritual traditions of the world. The Gospel of Nonduality points to the nondual reality that Jesus called the Kingdom of God and Eternal Life. Other spiritual traditions call it enlightenment, liberation, Self-realization or awakening. Davis refers to it as unitive awareness. He understands this to be the central teaching of Jesus and the early Christian community that gathered around the apostle John. He points readers to how to realize this nondual awareness in their spiritual lives.

Experiencing God Directly

Experiencing God Directly PDF Author: Marshall Davis
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781521325025
Category : Awareness
Languages : en
Pages : 111

Book Description
We can know God directly. We can have immediate awareness of oneness with God in the present moment. It is not mediated through a church, a religion, a creed or a spiritual path. This is not theological knowledge about God. It is not a religious experience facilitated by a worship service. It is not a spiritual experience elicited by religious disciplines or practices. It is not a revelation of God mediated through Scripture or communicated by spiritual teachers. This is direct unmediated awareness of God. Jesus called this the Kingdom of God. He experienced it at his baptism, and it was his earliest message. Jesus described it to Nicodemus as being "born of the Spirit." The apostle Paul referred to it as being "in Christ." It was Moses' experience of God as "I AM" at the Burning Bush. It was the experience of Job when he met God in the whirlwind. It produces what the New Testament calls the "fruit of the Spirit" in our lives - qualities like Love, Joy, and Peace. It is "the peace that surpasses all human understanding." It is sometimes called nondual awareness. This is just another term for union with God. It is the experience of mystics in the Christian tradition, and it is echoed in other spiritual traditions. It is the Way, the Truth, and the Life that is Jesus Christ. This is the heart of Christianity. And it is available now. All we have to do is wake up to this always present awareness of God. That is what this book points to. Marshall Davis interprets nondual awareness in language familiar to Christians. He calls it Christian Nonduality. He explores the teachings of Jesus, the Wisdom literature of the Hebrew Scriptures, and the writings of the apostles in the New Testament. He shows how all these writings communicate this experience of oneness with God. He concludes with practical instruction on how the reader can experience this same awareness now.

The Universal Christ

The Universal Christ PDF Author: Richard Rohr
Publisher: Convergent Books
ISBN: 1524762105
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 250

Book Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From one of the world’s most influential spiritual thinkers, a long-awaited book exploring what it means that Jesus was called “Christ,” and how this forgotten truth can restore hope and meaning to our lives. “Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.”—Melinda Gates In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Is the word simply Jesus’s last name? Too often, Rohr writes, our understandings have been limited by culture, religious debate, and the human tendency to put ourselves at the center. Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet. Thought-provoking, practical, and full of deep hope and vision, The Universal Christ is a landmark book from one of our most beloved spiritual writers, and an invitation to contemplate how God liberates and loves all that is.

Languages : en
Pages : 294

Book Description
"The Mystic Christ is an ancient tale of mystic union, salvation, and enlightenment. It is the careful uncovering of a lost treasure of immeasurable value, long buried in the suffocating darkness of conventional orthodoxy on one side, and blind fundamentalist extremism on the other. From the viewpoint of the world's mystical religious traditions, the brilliant light of the Master's way is revealed as a penetrating radical non-duality unifying all people and all of life. His path to this all-embracing unity is the spiritual practice of pure selfless love. Love God intensely, love our neighbor as our own Self, bless those that curse us, and pray for those that mistreat us. Love has been lost, becoming nothing more than a word in the dictionary and, yet, it remains the foundation of Jesus' message."

The Heart of Centering Prayer

The Heart of Centering Prayer PDF Author: Cynthia Bourgeault
Publisher: Shambhala Publications
ISBN: 1611803144
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 257

Book Description
The best-selling author of The Wisdom Jesus and The Meaning of Mary Magdalene demystifies the popular Christian meditation method rooted in contemplative prayer Centering Prayer is the path to a wonderful and radical new way of seeing the world. It is not, as is sometimes thought, simply an act of devotional piety, nor is it simply a Christianized form of other meditation methods. Cynthia Bourgeault here cuts through the misconceptions to show that Centering Prayer is in fact a pioneering development within the Christian contemplative tradition. She provides a practical, complete course in the practice and then goes deeper to analyze what actually happens in Centering Prayer: the mind effectively switches to a new operating system that makes possible the perception of nonduality. With this understanding in place, she then takes us on a journey through one of the sources of the practice, the Christian contemplative classic The Cloud of Unknowing, revealing it to be among the earliest Christian explorations of the phenomenology of consciousness. Cynthia Bourgeault’s illumination of the Centering Prayer path provides compelling evidence of how important the practice has become in the half-century since it first arose among American Trappist monks, and of its maturation and refinement over the ensuing years of sincere study and practice. It will resonate with beginners on the Centering Prayer path as well as with seasoned practitioners.

Book Description
Intriguing facts of the vastness and miraculous complexity of our universe, coupled with reports from scientists that inseparability is the fundamental nature of our existence. "Science of the Sages, " by the author of "One Essence" and "Living Nonduality" is a tour through the contemporary scientific view of the universe, from cosmology to subatomic particles, with an eye on its harmony with the conscious insight that has been the message of sages throughout human history. As Robert writes: Whether one looks out at the mysteries of a vast cosmos or narrows the view to the counterintuitive behavior of a subatomic particle, I would not be alone in maintaining that nonduality is the basic principle that explains the Whole-the "spirit" of what is "manifest in the laws of the Universe," to borrow a phrase from Einstein. While our comprehension has only been recent, what we're comprehending is an inseparable reality that is far more ancient than even man's earliest intuition of Oneness-and may be the producer of that very intuition.
