Combining the perspectives of political science and law, this book addresses that discourse, asking how democracies seek to harmonize the protection of individual liberties with the defence of state interests. The paper concludes that Israel must increase the importance of the political component relative to the military component in its national security policy. Israel must begin to take political risks for peace at the expense of its quest for absolute security, while still retaining its military power as the most significant factor to guarantee its existence.
