Author: John Lyle
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 113450697X
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 370
Book Description
Coaching is a central feature of sport at all levels. This groundbreaking new text is the first to offer a comprehensive introduction to the conceptual issues that underpin sports coaching practice, and to provide a complete conceptual framework for understanding sports coaching. The analysis presented within the book is practice-orientated, exploring the language of the coaching process in order to define the role of the coach, and to better understand the relationship between the coach and the sports performer. Sports Coaching Concepts introduces the key issues behind every stage of the coaching process, presenting important new material on topics such as: * the historical and international context of the development of sports coaching * the role of the coach * participation and performance coaching modes * modelling the coaching process * coaching 'style' and 'philosophy' * decision-making and regulating the process * social factors influencing practice * the future of coach education and professionalisation. The book draws together the existing sports coaching literature for the first time, setting it against important new conceptual developments, and promises to have a profound influence on the nature of our coach education programmes. This book therefore represents essential reading for any student of sports coaching and any serious coach wishing to develop and extend their own coaching practice.

Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 210
Book Description
Coaching in Education: Getting Better Results for Students, Educators and Parents will support educational organisations in learning more about the current interest in coaching approaches within schools, colleges and universities. With chapters on coaching in primary schools and secondary schools, with students, staff and parents, this book provides a sound basis for introducing coaching into any educational setting. This book brings together the latest national and international academic research with real case studies and a focus on practice that makes a difference for learners. Starting with a review of the existing literature and research into the area of coaching in education, the book goes on to consider the role of coaching educational leaders, coaching within the primary school setting and then secondary school settings. The notion of "mental toughness" and its relationship to coaching is also explored. The US and Australian perspectives on coaching in education are discussed in two chapters written by leading experts - instructional coaching in the US and the integration of positive and coaching psychology in Australia.

Exploring Social Responsibility in Sport
Author: Anastasia Rose Gaudreau
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Athletes
Languages : en
Pages : 146
Book Description
Social Responsibility is becoming a prominent practice in the sport industry (Babiak, 2010: Webb & Harris, 2001). However, there has been little research on the prominence of social responsibility in sport at the collegiate and scholastic levels. This current study explores the relationship between social responsibility, organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB), hardiness and team cohesion in sport at the collegiate and scholastic levels. Two types of collegiate and scholastic female teams participated in this study - Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) women's soccer team (n = 25), CCSU women's volleyball team (n = 15) and East Hartford High School's girls soccer (n = 19) and volleyball (n = 26) teams. Participants were asked to complete a demographic questionnaire along with 3 surveys which measured cohesion, performance of organizational citizenship behaviors, and hardiness. The demographic questionnaire revealed that collegiate athletes participate in a higher level of community service participation than scholastic athletes. Spearman's rank correlations indicated that cohesion and hardiness at the scholastic level were strongly positively correlated, rs = .675, p
