Rabbinic tradition is in large part a tradition of law and jurisprudence. This tradition of law comprehends fields as diverse as the law of evidence and the dietary regimen, as laws on credit and debt and the laws of ritual purity. It follows naturally that many, if not most, of the great works of rabbinical literature are law books, commentaries on the law, and collections of cases. The principal legal code, or restatement, still authoritative among traditional Jews, is the Shulhan Arukh, compiled by Joseph b. Ephraim Karo of Safed (1488-1575) and glossed by Moses Isserles of Cracow (1520-1572). This work, published in four volumes, provided the rabbinic jurist or magistrate, as well as the learned layman, with a concise review of the various areas of Jewish law that might come to his attention. One such area of traditional Jewish law was the laws of buying and selling and the laws of fraud in sales. This particular domain within traditional Jewish commercial law is surprisingly intelligible and fascinating for modern students of Jewish tradition. Buying and selling are just as much a part of the modern world as they were of past ages. Moreover, the student of legal history or comparative law will find that this rabbinical code on sales and fraud in sales provides, at a glance, a view of the strata of Jewish legal development from the ancient period to the sixteenth century. Among the matters treated in this code are the formation of the agreement to buy and sell, the concept of acquisition as it relates to various types of property, legal capacity, and the requirement of good faith. The chapters on fraud reflect the moral and ethical values of Jewish tradition which are always implicit, and often explicit, in the rules of Jewish civil, criminal, and commercial legal codes. The material is clearly of interest to modern students of business ethics. A synopsis of the law of sale prefaces the work. It underscores some of the main features of this area of the law and furnishes some terminology and analysis of the material. While this synopsis does note some points of contrast and comparison with Roman law and medieval church law, it is not intended as a detailed historical or comparative study. It serves principally to introduce the text itself and establish some useful lines of understanding and classification. The translation of the laws of sale and fraud presented here has been prepared with the utmost care and attention to the technical nuances of legal terminology in both modern and ancient law. Its apparatus of notes and references includes material on the history of the printing of this translated portion of the Jewish legal tradition.

"Tanakh" or, The Hebrew Bible, which is also sometimes called the Miqra, is the canonical collection of Hebrew scriptures, including the Torah. The form of this text that is authoritative for Rabbinic Judaism is known as the Masoretic Text. The Tanakh consists of twenty-four books: it counts as one book each Samuel, Kings, Chronicles and Ezra–Nehemiah and counts the Twelve Minor Prophets as a single book. The Torah (literally "teaching"), also known as the Pentateuch, or the "Five Books of Moses" is the first part of Tanakh and it contains Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Nevi'im (Prophets) is the second main division of the Tanakh, between the Torah and Ketuvim. It contains three sub-groups. This division includes the books which cover the time from the entrance of the Israelites into the Land of Israel until the Babylonian captivity of Judah. Ketuvim (Writings) consists of eleven books. They are also divided into three subgroups based on the distinctiveness of Sifrei Emet and Hamesh Megillot. "Talmud" is the central text of Rabbinic Judaism and the primary source of Jewish religious law (halakha) and Jewish theology. The term "Talmud" normally refers to the collection of writings named specifically the Babylonian Talmud (Talmud Bavli). It may also traditionally be called Shas, a Hebrew abbreviation of shisha sedarim, or the "six orders" of the Mishnah. The Talmud consists of tractates and contains the teachings and opinions of thousands of rabbis (dating from before the Common Era through to the fifth century) on a variety of subjects, including halakha, Jewish ethics, philosophy, customs, history, and folklore, and many other topics. The Talmud is the basis for all codes of Jewish law and is widely quoted in rabbinic literature.

I am a victim of a different scheme where I have been treated as a slave by my separated wife and her male friend and guru using the judicial system of family law which has made me homeless, and in debt. Due to my ex-wifes unrighteous and immoral lifestyle prior to marriage, and later her joining a New Age Reike Cult in Ottawa with beliefs Universe will provide without working, single parenthood, love everyone; she decided to leave the marriage and abandoned me with with the help from her lawyer with lies and untruths in her affidavits that I was controlling and abusive. Before she abandoned me she was practicing in the field of Reike, psychic healing, black magic and herbal medicine. She quit her executive job, and then abandoned me on May 9th 1997. After which, with the help of her male friend and guru and dishonest lawyer, my wife lived off me by receiving spousal and child payments, and has taken all I have worked and saved during the past 30 years. She refused to work and did not provide medical evidence to the court that she was unable to work. I am a simple righteous, religious and educated man, and I live by the tenets of my Zoroastrian religion which are opposite to her New age beliefs. My separated wife, and her male friend are responsible for my present New Age slavery. On October 3rd, 2003, at the Superior Court of Justice (Family Court) in Ottawa, I made a request to the Madam Justice during my defense that "Justice should be based on truths and not on untruths", to which a Madam Justice replied as follows: An officer of the court, the lawyer (representing my estrange wife), can say untruths or lies in order to win the case, and make money for his client and himself. Repercussions from such an action by an officer of the court, namely telling lies, have been very serious to me; as, for the past thirteen years I have suffered extreme mental and psychological cruelty in terms of having no life, financial hardships, and also my daughter has been separated from me. The bag of tricks used by my wifes lawyers to increase the settlement were very painful, mentally cruel and devastating to me. Initially my wife did not provide financial disclosure for very long time, and then I lost my lawyer as he joined a high tech company. After which my wifes lawyer went for a trial, and I was told 2 weeks prior to that and hence had to get a new lawyer. A settlement was reached at the eve of the trial where the disclosure for the settlement from my wife was minimal. Then my wife garnished my CSCOOP bank account when I was away from the country on a Zoroastrian historical and religious tour of Persia in spring of 2003. This happened despite my letter to my wifes lawyer stating that I will be away from Ottawa for 3 weeks, then hire a lawyer and pay the settlement. Garnishment was purposely done, as I could not afford to hire a lawyer to defend myself without money. After that, I went through very difficult time financially, and had no money to pay bills for over 8 weeks, and had to borrow money at high interest rate to continue living. During this period, my wifes lawyer brought in 2 more motions to the court and won as I represented myself. The motions included occupancy rent, and exclusive rights to sell the house, and they also prevented me to purchase my own home twice by increasing the settlement amounts falsely. After that, my wifes lawyer made me look bad in the eyes of the Judge by making false accusations that I was interfering with the sale of the house etc; and for nearly 3 years they did not sell the house to make interest on the settlement, and also to collect the occupancy rent each month.
