Profit and Wages

Profit and Wages PDF Author: Gustav A. Kleene

Pages : 182

Book Description
Excerpt from Profit and Wages: A Study in the Distribution of Income This is the method of mental experiment with different lines of approach to the problem, the exploitation of different facts and ideas as tentative premises. The forces of our indus trial system are so involved that no conception of its operation could be reached by any attempt to describe its details. In fact the more photo graphic and concrete the picture presented to the mind, the more confusing and difficult the problem becomes. The only feasible pro cedure, therefore, is to seek for essential facts and to reason from these, while deliberately excluding from view a mass of complicating phenomena. Intellectually portable and man ageable results are won by selection only. Com plications must be eliminated, or, in other words, hypothetical assumptions must be made. Economic theory differs from other sciences only in the degree of its hypothetical character. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Change in the Distribution of the National Income

The Change in the Distribution of the National Income PDF Author: Arthur L. Bowley
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780265604151
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 36

Book Description
Excerpt from The Change in the Distribution of the National Income: 1880-1913 The proportion of the national income received as wages diminished from about 41% to 354 per cent., but the receipts per wage-earner increased about 34 per cent. The proportion received by persons assessed to income-tax increased slightly. The number of such persons increased more rapidly than the occupied population (or the number of persons with separate incomes) and if to allow for this we measure incomes above £225 in 1913 and compare them with incomes above £160 in 1880, the proportions of the total are 47 per cent. At the earlier and 444 per cent. At the latter date. The proportion received by the intermediate class in creased at least, on my method of reckoning, from 14 per cent. Of the whole in 1880 to 17 per cent. In 1913. The evidence points to a greater increase, which, when we add in the incomes in 1913, between £160 and £225, is from 114 per cent. At the earlier date and 20 per cent. At the latter. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Prentice-Hall Tax Service for 1919 This allowance is not based upon the difference between the actual war cost of such facilities and what they would have cost at pre-war prices. Obviously the taxpayer is not entitled to recover or extinguish through amortization more than the difference between the war cost of such property and what he can sell the property for after the war, or if he continues to need and use it in his business, what it would have cost him after the war. As the rule is expressed in Article 183 of the Regulations: The total amount to be extinguished by amortization, in general, is the excess of the unextinguished or unrecovered cost of the property over its maximum value (either for sale or for use as part of the plant or equipment of a going business) under stable post war.
