Insanity
Author: Jonah F. Haddad
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1625642296
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 173
Book Description
"Have you seen such men--peculiar, raving, foam-mouthed, and straitjacketed--throwing themselves mercilessly at white padded walls . . . ? Such men are said to be insane. But there is more to insanity than the images depicted in film and planted in our minds by popular media. Insanity is a condition that affects us all. Unsoundness of mind disrupts our ability to think clearly and to form knowledge about the world. Our understanding is dangerously incomplete and our minds are corrupt. We are all insane. How then can we ever hope to know our world? Is it possible to form justified true beliefs about anything? What possibility, if any, do we have of escaping this condition of madness that keeps us from the light of knowledge? In Insanity, Jonah Haddad explores these very questions by introducing the main problems of the theory of knowledge and by offering a response to our madness--a response grounded in God, the ultimate Knower. "

Insanity and Genius
Author: Harry Eiss
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1443860867
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 770
Book Description
In his book about the discovery of the structure of DNA, James Watson wrote, “So we had lunch, telling ourselves that a structure this beautiful just had to exist.” Indeed, the quest most often asked by scientists about a scientific theory is “Is it beautiful?” Yes, beauty equals truth. Scientists know, mathematicians know. But the beauties, the truths of mathematics and science were not the truths that inspired the author as a child, and he intuitively knew that the truths he needed come from a different way of knowing, a way of knowing not of the world of logic and reason and explanation (though they have a value), but rather a way of knowing that is of the world expression, a world that enters the truths beyond the grasp of logic. That is what this book is all about. It is an exploration of the greatest minds of human existence struggling to understand the deepest truths of the human condition. This second edition updates the previous one, incorporating new publications on Van Gogh, recent discoveries in neurology, psychology, and the rapid developments in understanding DNA and biotechnology. We’ve come a long way already from that original discovery by Watson and his coauthor Francis Crick.

Insanity in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat"
Author: Dustin Runkel
Publisher: GRIN Verlag
ISBN: 3668695601
Category : Foreign Language Study
Languages : en
Pages : 16
Book Description
Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 1,3, University of Marburg (Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik), language: English, abstract: In this paper, Poe’s popular short story "The Black Cat" (1843) will be analysed and interpreted from a psychoanalytic point of view. In order to make Poe’s attitude towards the human psyche graspable, the protagonist’s mental disorder(s) will be examined. In fact, the ambiguous narrative could – of course – be understood as the story of a virtuous man who suffers from the abyss of alcoholism. From this perspective, the story becomes the tale of woe that focuses on the social, economical and psychological consequences of alcohol dependency for the narrator loses his social environment, sinks into poverty, drifts towards sin, and starts to suffer from a dissociated personality. However, it seems as if the teller’s immoral acts were motivated by other forces than the influence of intoxication. The brutish narrator himself subsumes the destructive powers that guide (and transform) him under the expression “the spirit of perverseness”. Therefore, in this essay, it will be scrutinised whether alcoholism is the primary reason for the narrator being inclined to commit foul deeds or rather an external intensification of already existing homicidal tendencies.

An Outcast in Another World
Author: Kamikaze Potato

ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 447
Book Description
Rob was an ordinary college sophomore when a pitch-back portal opened up on campus and tried to kidnap his best friend. An act of heroism resulted in him being taken instead, and he was rewarded for his efforts by being transported to another world with nothing but a sword and the clothes on his back. On the first day, he almost died. On the second day, he almost died. On the third, he began to notice a worrying trend. And almost died Whether he encounters wolves, cliffs, dungeons, monsters, or diseases, every day is a struggle to survive. The one advantage he has is his newfound ability to gain Levels and Stats, making himself stronger in order to survive the hostile lands that he was unceremoniously dumped into. He'll have to gain knowledge of the innerworkings of the world and its magic - progressing both his strength and his knowledge - in order to stay alive long enough to get revenge on whoever kidnapped him away from everything he knew and loved. Overcoming the wilds is just the first step in his journey; the locals aren't fond of humans, and discovering the dark past behind this new world's history of war and strife changes everything. As far as isekai adventures go, Rob drew the short straw in many ways, but it'll take more than danger at every corner to keep him down. He'll carve out a place in this world with his bare hands if necessary. He'll survive, and then he'll thrive. Whether anyone wants him to or not. -- An Outcast On Another World puts a great focus on story and characterization, making it perfect for fans of traditional fantasy stories, while still including plenty of skills, stats, classes, and progression for LitRPG-lovers to enjoy. The LitRPG elements are incorporated into the main story to construct a cohesive world that's easy to immerse yourself in. Rob's progression is weak to strong, and victories aren't handed to him on a silver platter. No matter how powerful he gets, mid-combat ingenuity is essential to achieving victory. An Outcast In Another World has dark elements to its narrative, but I've included appropriate humor as a balance, and many readers have told me that some parts made them burst out laughing while other parts tugged at their heartstrings. I truly believe that I've constructed a memorable fantasy RPG story that all types can love, and that you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
