Book Description
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: 1,1, Westfälische Hochschule Gelsenkirchen, Bocholt, Recklinghausen, language: English, abstract: The following Bachelor thesis is meant to analyze if and how cancel culture and shitstorms online, especially on social media, can affect companies and how affected companies can recover from the outcomes. For avid social media users online shitstorms, especially on the platform Twitter, can frequently be witnessed. It was therefore a very interesting topic to look further into, to be able to understand what can trigger a shitstorm and what the consequences for companies could look like. This thesis is also supposed to answer if or how a company can recover from a shitstorm, if they were affected by one. Furthermore it is meant to show what effective measurements could look like and if shitstorms could even be prevented in the first place and if yes, how they could be prevented. To achieve that, the first step will be to take a closer look at what makes social media so important to businesses. For that, an insight on the most important social media apps and websites will be given. After that, the dangers of social media to companies will be analyzed. The thesis will then continue by showing what makes shitstorms and cancel culture dangerous to a company. To achieve that, possible triggers of a shitstorm will be analyzed, as well as what phases a shitstorm has and what possible outcomes could look like. Furthermore, a closer look will be taken at how consumers react to shitstorms by analyzing the results of a self made survey. The survey was made to understand, if and how consumers let shitstorms influence their buying decisions and if they would stop buying a certain product or brand if they were involved in a shitstorm. Following that, three companies, Nestlé, Amazon and Nike, which have already been at the center of a shitstorm, will be analyzed as case studies. To analyze the companies, a closer look will be taken at the reasons for these shitstorms, how each company was affected in terms of image and revenue and how they handled the situation. Furthermore, it will be explained if shitstorms could be prevented in the first place and how to successfully manage and recover from a shitstorm when affected by one. For this, a best practice example will be given in chapter 6.

Author: Kevin Tavin
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030737705
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 308
Book Description
This open access edited volume provides theoretical, practical, and historical perspectives on art and education in a post-digital, post-internet era. Recently, these terms have been attached to artworks, artists, exhibitions, and educational practices that deal with the relationships between online and offline, digital and physical, and material and immaterial. By taking the current socio-technological conditions of the post-digital and the post-internet seriously, contributors challenge fixed narratives and field-specific ownership of these terms, as well as explore their potential and possible shortcomings when discussing art and education. Chapters also recognize historical forebears of digital art and education while critically assessing art, media, and other realms of engagement. This book encourages readers to explore what kind of educational futures might a post-digital, post-internet era engender.

The Problem with Everything
Author: Meghan Daum
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1982129352
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 177
Book Description
“[A]ffectingly personal, achingly earnest, and something close to necessary.” —Vogue “Personal, convincing, unflinching.” —Tablet From an author who’s been called “one of the most emotionally exacting, mercilessly candid, deeply funny, and intellectually rigorous writers of our time” (Cheryl Strayed, #1 New York Times bestselling author) comes a seminal book that reaches surprising truths about feminism, the Trump era, and the Resistance movement. You won’t be able to stop thinking and talking about it. In this gripping work, Meghan Daum examines our country’s most intractable problems with clear-eyed honesty instead of exaggerated outrage. With passion, humor, and personal reflection, she tries to make sense of the current landscape—from Donald Trump’s presidency to the #MeToo movement and beyond. In the process, she wades into the waters of identity politics and intersectionality, thinks deeply about campus politics and notions of personal resilience, and tests a theory about the divide between Gen Xers and millennials. This signature work may well be the first book to capture the essence of this era in all its nuances and contradictions. No matter where you stand on its issues, this book will strike a chord.

From ACT UP to the WTO
Author: Benjamin Shepard
Publisher: Verso Books
ISBN: 1789607736
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 996
Book Description
In March 1987 a radical coalition of queer activists converged on Wall Street ... their target, 'Business, Big Business, Business as Usual!!!' It was ACT UP's first demonstration. In November 1999 a radical coalition of environmental, labor, anarchist, queer, and human rights activists converged in Seattle-their target was similar, a system of global capitalism. Between 1987 and 1999 a new project in activism had emerged unshackled from past ghosts. Through innovative use of civil rights' era non-violent disobedience, guerrilla theatre, and sophisticated media work, ACT UP has helped transform the world of activism. This anthology offers a history of ACT UP for a new generation of activists and students. It is divided into five sections which address the new social movements, the use of street theater to reclaim public space, queer and sexual politics, new media/electronic civil disobedience, and race and community building. Contributions range across a diverse spectrum: The Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, Jubilee 2000, Students for an Undemocratic Society, Fed Up Queers, Gender Identity Center of Colorado, Triangle Foundation, Jacks of Color, National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, Lower East Side Collective, Community Labor Coalition, Church of Stop-Shopping, Indy Media Collective, Black Radical Congress, The Theater of the Oppressed Laboratory, Adelante Street Theater; HealthGAP, Housing Works, SexPanic! and, of course, ACT UP itself.
