Publisher: McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP
ISBN: 0773566511
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
This bibliography encompasses all extant books of emblems, works illustrated with emblems, and books dealing with the theory and practice of emblematics written by members of The Society of Jesus. Also included are translations and adaptations in all languages of Jesuit works by Catholics and non-Catholics alike. This bibliography will be to Jesuit emblematics what De Backer-Sommervogel is to the writings of The Society of Jesus. The complete Jesuit Series will probably comprise some 1,700 entries: about 500 first editions and a further 1,200 subsequent editions, issues, and translations. Many books are described here for first time. Of the 240 titles in this volume, 121 do not appear in Praz, 93 not in Landwehr, and 54 not in De Backer-Sommervogel. Part One also contains a substantial introduction to the various information fields that constitute the bibliographic descriptions.

Considerations on Eternity
Author: Jeremias Drexelius
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781482755596
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 220
Book Description
Here we have another book from the author of the popular book, 'Heliotropium'. Failure to reflect on eternity has at all times in man's history been a fundamental cause of sin. There are always many, alas too many, who, if they do not actually deny an eternal life, yet live as if they had no belief in it. "In an thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin" (Ecclus. vii. 40). The consideration of eternity is as necessary in one age as in another. The present day is no exception. "With desolation is all the land made desolate; because there is none that considereth in the heart." (Jer. xii. 11.) God has prepared for the good an eternal reward, and for the wicked an eternal punishment. "Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." (Mat. xxv. 34.) "Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels" (Mat. xxv. 41). These are the words of Christ Who is to come to judge both the living and the dead. Is it not worth our while to meditate and reflect upon them? Most Catholic homes are too poorly equipped with Catholic books treating of man's deepest concerns. And what can be of deeper concern to a man than how he shall spend eternity? "For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?" (Mat. xvi. 26.) We of this day need the spiritual strength to be derived from such a book as this to resist the frivolous and sinful tendencies that threaten to carry us away.Dear Reader, you and I, willing or unwilling, are one day to be ushered into the realm of eternity. We know what it is. God, the infal1ible Truth, has declared it to us in unmistakable language. Reflect seriously, then, on the considerations here presented.Learn to love this book. Let it be a fountain from which you will drink often. It will help you to gain eternal life, to escape eternal death. You may not find it necessary to inform you of the struggle waged by the Powers of Darkness against the Powers of Light for the possession of your soul. But you will find it an encouragement to put all your strength on the side of the Powers ofLight.
