Rapture

Rapture PDF Author: David Currie
Publisher: Sophia Institute Press
ISBN: 1622820479
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 513

Book Description
The end-times error that leaves the Bible behind! Author David Currie grew up convinced that one day all true Christians will suddenly be snatched up to heaven. The unfortunate souls left behind by this "rapture" will endure seven horrible years of tribulation, at the end of which Christ will return to earth for a glorious thousand-year reign. Today, millions of Christians accept this end-times theology, assuming - as Currie did -- that the Bible clearly teaches it. Many plan their whole lives around it. But, after studying Scripture for decades, Currie has come to see that if you accept the Bible, you have to reject the rapture. In these remarkable pages - which constitute the world's most careful and thorough scriptural study of the rapture - Currie demonstrates why. He considers all the relevant verses (and there are hundreds!) and examines them in the light of ancient history, the writings of the earliest Christians, and the claims of rapturist theologians. With painstaking thoroughness, he unlocks the meanings of the key biblical prophecies that culminate in Christ's Messianic Kingdom - including those verses in Daniel, Matthew, and Revelation that rapturists turn to most. Marshalling evidence that's as startling as it is compelling, Currie argues that these prophecies of war and tribulation don't point to some still-unrealized apocalyptic future. Rather, most of them were fulfilled long ago: the spiritual, priestly Kingdom prefigured in the Old Testament was inaugurated on Calvary, consummated in 70 A.D. with the destruction of the Temple, and continues to exist today . . . in the Catholic Church! That may surprise you. Yet, shows Currie, it's the only conclusion that fits all the scriptural and historical evidence. Rapture: The End-Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind makes Scripture, prophecy, and history come alive; and it demonstrates that if you open your Bible, you'll find that God's plan for the future of the world is not filled with darkness and disaster, but with light, mercy, and hope. "We can all learn much from David Currie, not only from what he says, which is wise, but from how he says it, which is Catholic and Christian." From the Foreword by Scott Hahn. Special features: Over 1,300 references to Scripture, the early Church Fathers, authors and events in ancient history, and contemporary rapturist theologians Ten detailed timelines relating biblical prophecy to key historical events The biblical case for the rapture (showing why so many accept it) A survey of the thoughts of the early Church Fathers about the end-times A history of the development of rapturist theories, showing how this heresy has been refuted time and again by the Church A short course in the proper methods of reading Scripture A survey of end-times hypotheses from the first century through 9/11/2001 Nine ground rules you must follow if you are to make sense of biblical prophecy and relate it to salvation history A 10-page annotated bibliography of rapturist sources ancient and new Plus, much more to help you understand and evaluate the claims of rapturists Among the sources cited: Julius Africanus • St. Athanasius • St. Augustine • Pope Benedict XV • Andreas of Cappadocia • St. Clement of Alexandria • G. The Rapture Exposed

The Rapture Exposed PDF Author: Barbara R. Rossing
Publisher: Basic Books
ISBN: 0465004962
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
The idea of "The Rapture" -- the return of Christ to rescue and deliver Christians off the earth -- is an extremely popular interpretation of the Bible's Book of Revelation and a jumping-off point for the best-selling "Left Behind" series of books. This interpretation, based on a psychology of fear and destruction, guides the daily acts of thousands if not millions of people worldwide. In The Rapture Exposed, Barbara Rossing argues that this script for the world's future is nothing more than a disingenuous distortion of the Bible. The truth, Rossing argues, is that Revelation offers a vision of God's healing love for the world. The Rapture Exposed reclaims Christianity from fundamentalists' destructive reading of the biblical story and back into God's beloved community.

Three Views on the Rapture

Three Views on the Rapture PDF Author: Craig A. Blaising
Publisher: Zondervan Academic
ISBN: 0310528828
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
The rapture--or the belief that Jesus' living followers will, at some point, join him forever while others do not--is an important but contested doctrine among evangelicals. Scholars generally hold one of three perspectives on the timing and circumstances of the rapture, all of which are presented in this important volume of the Counterpoints series, Three Views on the Rapture: Alan D. Hultberg (PhD, Trinity International University and professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology) explains the Pre-Wrath view. Craig Blaising (PhD, Dallas Theological Seminary and president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary) defends the Pre-Tribulation view. Douglas Moo (PhD, University of St. Andrews and professor of New Testament at Wheaton College) sets forth the Post-Tribulation view. Each author provides a substantive explanation of his position, which is critiqued by the other two authors. A thorough introduction gives a historical overview of the doctrine of the rapture and its effects on the church. The interactive and fair-minded format of the Counterpoints series allows readers to consider the strengths and weaknesses of each view and draw informed, personal conclusions.

Book Description
Things to know about the Great Tribulation:The Antichrist is not the author of the events in the tribulation. He's manipulating them. Most deaths in the tribulation will not be at the hands of the Antichrist (Rev. 6:8, 9:13-15, 18).Most Christians who die in the Great Tribulation will not be martyred/beheaded (Rev. 6:8, 9:18).The mark of the beast will affect the merchants not the consumers (Rev. 18:3, 11, 15, 21).The consequences for refusing the mark of the beast is not death (Rev. 13:16-17) but restriction from participating in the Antichrist's one-world commerce system wherein all the participates will become rich. One will not be forced to choose between salvation and starvation (Matt. 6:25, 31, 33).A single act of taking the mark of the beast is just as forgivable in the tribulation as tattoos of Satan are today. (See the combination of unforgivable acts of worship in Revelation 14:9-11.)Many will worship the beast or his image or take his mark and be forgiven. It's the combination of those three acts that's unforgivable. (See the same principle in Romans 10:9 as it applies to eternal life.)Those who miss the rapture are not at the mercy of the Antichrist (Rom. 5:20).The word of God and the Holy Spirit are both present during the tribulation (Matt. 24:35; John14:16-17, 26).Salvation will be just as accessible in the tribulation as it is in the church dispensation (Matt. 18:20, 24:3; Heb. 13:5; Rev. 7:4, 11:3, 14:6).The opening of the seals is not God releasing his judgment in the Great Tribulation but the consequences of humanities accumulated behavior (Gal. 6:7).Satan does not have the authority ability or power to give life to anything (John 10:9-10; Acts 17:25-26, 28).The terms "before the foundation of the world," "predestination," "the Lamb's Book of Life" are all expressing the eternal state. Eliminate either of these conditions or positions from the plane of salvation, and there's no eternal life These terms are never associated with sin or sinners (Rom. 8:29; Eph. 1:5, 11; Rev. 13:8, 17:8, 21:9, 27).

The Church in End-Time Prophecy

The Church in End-Time Prophecy PDF Author: Curtis Schulze

Book Description
Church in Prophecy Today, the rapture of the church is one of the most disputed end-time topics in all the scriptures. No other end-time doctrine has divided the church more than this subject of the rapture. We have made this all about timing, rather than his return. Many are preoccupied with and distracted by their own particular prediction. The purpose of this book is not to refute one position in favor of another, but to come against the church's obsession and preoccupation with timing. Our focus should be directed toward his return, and not fixed on timing. This is the testimony of the scriptures! Whether he comes early, or whether he tarries, this does not matter to me. What matters to me is the readiness of the church! We need to be ready now and always if he comes early, but if delayed: we will need to be ready to go through the dark and difficult days ahead. We need to prepare our hearts now for what is coming lest it catch us off guard! We need to build our faith to stand under pressure, and we need to build our trust and confidence in Him now to keep us while in tribulation. We will need to settle the matter in our hearts concerning all those things coming on the earth, to lay our lives down at all cost! We will need to prepare our children and loved ones for the day ahead if the Lord tarry. If the Lord did return today, most would not be ready to evacuate! If he were to delay his coming, most are unprepared for the dark and difficult days ahead. I am afraid for the church! I am afraid many will fall away if the rapture does not occur as expected. I am afraid many are taking this too lightly, thinking they are guaranteed a seat on the rapture express but will be left behind because of complacency and indifference toward Christ and the gospel. Either way you look at it, the church is neither ready to leave, nor ready to go through!

20 Reasons the Church Will Miss the Great Tribulation

20 Reasons the Church Will Miss the Great Tribulation PDF Author: Jim Baxter

Book Description
The subject of the pre-tribulation rapture has become a hotly debated subject in these last days, and in this book, I will attempt to show you from the word of God, exactly what we should believe as a united body of Christ. Growing up in Spencer, Oklahoma in the 1960's, I came from an average middle class family, and church attendance was not on our daily agenda. I had some good neighbors named Bob and Polly Jones, and they began to take me to church, and vacation bible school. I walked down the aisle at Dixon Baptist church, when I was 9 years old, and felt the joy of the Lord, and the Holy Spirits presence. I came to the Lord as a child, yet that doesn't mean I instantly became a bible scholar. I assumed everyone who went to church, went to a Baptist church, and the teachings of the Baptists I assumed were the only teachings concerning the Scriptures. So, the subject of the pre-tribulation rapture of the church, was an established fact for me. I am sad to say that after this my church attendance tapered off, until in my teenage years, I made no effort to serve the Lord. I was like David, down in the land of the Philistines, where I did not belong. But God had mercy on me, and brought me back into the fold in my early adult life. I became aware of the gifts of the spirit when I was about 23, and soon changed my church affiliation to the Assembly of God church. I did not forsake my early teachings in the Baptist church, I just felt that I had graduated from grade school, and was now in junior high. Then I met a man named Garland Blocker, and he introduced me to a higher calling in Christ. Most people thought he was crazy, as most people now think I'm crazy, but he introduced me to other theories concerning the rapture of the church. So, I went from a pre-tribulation rapture Christian, to a mid-tribulation rapture Christian, and even entertained for a short period of time, a post-tribulation rapture position. I could find Scriptures that seemingly supported all three positions, and it became very confusing. So about 5 years ago, I began to study the subject with much prayer, and I believe I can prove to you through the Scriptures, that the church will not be here when the mark of the beast is require to participate in commerce.
