Reconstructing the Settled Landscape of the Cyclades

Reconstructing the Settled Landscape of the Cyclades PDF Author: Konstantinos Z. Roussos
Publisher: Leiden University Press
ISBN: 9789087283032
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
The aim of this book is to offer a fresh approach to the history and archaeology of the Cyclades in Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Early Middle Ages in light of current archaeological investigations. It is an attempt to interpret human-environmental interaction in order to read the relationship between islands, settlements, landscapes, and seascapes in the context of the diverse and highly interactive Mediterranean world. It offers an interdisciplinary approach, which combines archaeological evidence, literary sources, and observations of the sites and microlandscapes as a whole, using the advantages offered by the application of new technologies in archaeological research (Geographic Information Systems). The islands of Paros and Naxos are used as case-studies. The author traces how these neighboring insular communities reacted under the same general circumstances pertaining in the Aegean and to what extent the landscape played a role in this process.

Obama's Ring

Obama's Ring PDF Author: Will Clark
Publisher: Createspace Independent Pub
ISBN: 9781483946351
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 252

Book Description
Does Barack Obama's ring carry a sinister message? The idea that his ring carried an Islamic message was debunked when a photo revealed that was not the message on the ring. What that photo revealed was even more sinister than an Islamic message. It revealed a Satanic association of Biblical importance. Displayed on Obama's ring are two coiled serpents. Many verses in the Bible refer to Satan as a serpent; starting in the Garden of Eden in Genesis, and moving to the church at Pergamos, in Revelation. According to Apostle John, writing from Patmos to the seven churches of Asia Minor, Satan's seat was at the church of Pergamos. John's reference was to the icon for the great medical center there which was represented by serpents. Using that reference from Apostle John's letter to Pergamos, there are many other clues in the Bible, and from current events, that suggest Barack Obama might be the one described in the Book of Revelation as the deceiver, that great threat to Israel and Christians. The author reveals many connections to suggest that possibility. The author describes the major event that will allow the rise of the Antichrist, how the Antichrist will get his great power, how the second beast will support the first beast, and why and how those Biblical writings are tied directly to current events. According to the author: Agenda 21, the Muslim Brotherhood, the One World Order, Wahabbism, and the actions by Barack Obama reveal signs of the 'End Times.' This book ties all these things together to show a clear and revealing picture of that Biblical prophesy.

Explorations in Quantum Computing

Explorations in Quantum Computing PDF Author: Colin P. Williams
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1846288878
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 724

Book Description
By the year 2020, the basic memory components of a computer will be the size of individual atoms. At such scales, the current theory of computation will become invalid. "Quantum computing" is reinventing the foundations of computer science and information theory in a way that is consistent with quantum physics - the most accurate model of reality currently known. Remarkably, this theory predicts that quantum computers can perform certain tasks breathtakingly faster than classical computers – and, better yet, can accomplish mind-boggling feats such as teleporting information, breaking supposedly "unbreakable" codes, generating true random numbers, and communicating with messages that betray the presence of eavesdropping. This widely anticipated second edition of Explorations in Quantum Computing explains these burgeoning developments in simple terms, and describes the key technological hurdles that must be overcome to make quantum computers a reality. This easy-to-read, time-tested, and comprehensive textbook provides a fresh perspective on the capabilities of quantum computers, and supplies readers with the tools necessary to make their own foray into this exciting field. Topics and features: concludes each chapter with exercises and a summary of the material covered; provides an introduction to the basic mathematical formalism of quantum computing, and the quantum effects that can be harnessed for non-classical computation; discusses the concepts of quantum gates, entangling power, quantum circuits, quantum Fourier, wavelet, and cosine transforms, and quantum universality, computability, and complexity; examines the potential applications of quantum computers in areas such as search, code-breaking, solving NP-Complete problems, quantum simulation, quantum chemistry, and mathematics; investigates the uses of quantum information, including quantum teleportation, superdense coding, quantum data compression, quantum cloning, quantum negation, and quantum cryptography; reviews the advancements made towards practical quantum computers, covering developments in quantum error correction and avoidance, and alternative models of quantum computation. This text/reference is ideal for anyone wishing to learn more about this incredible, perhaps "ultimate," computer revolution. Dr. Colin P. Williams is Program Manager for Advanced Computing Paradigms at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, and CEO of Xtreme Energetics, Inc. an advanced solar energy company. Dr. Williams has taught quantum computing and quantum information theory as an acting Associate Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University. He has spent over a decade inspiring and leading high technology teams and building business relationships with and Silicon Valley companies. Today his interests include terrestrial and Space-based power generation, quantum computing, cognitive computing, computational material design, visualization, artificial intelligence, evolutionary computing, and remote olfaction. He was formerly a Research Scientist at Xerox PARC and a Research Assistant to Prof. Stephen W. Hawking, Cambridge University.

A Guide to Biblical Sites in Greece and Turkey

A Guide to Biblical Sites in Greece and Turkey PDF Author: Clyde E. Fant
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0199881456
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 429

Book Description
Nearly two-thirds of the New Testament--including all of the letters of Paul, most of the book of Acts, and the book of Revelation--is set outside of Israel, in either Turkey or Greece. Although biblically-oriented tours of the areas that were once ancient Greece and Asia Minor have become increasingly popular, up until now there has been no definitive guidebook through these important sites. In A Guide to Biblical Sites in Greece and Turkey, two well-known, well-traveled biblical scholars offer a fascinating historical and archaeological guide to these sites. The authors reveal countless new insights into the biblical text while reliably guiding the traveler through every significant location mentioned in the Bible. The book completely traces the journeys of the Apostle Paul across Turkey (ancient Asia Minor), Greece, Cyprus, and the islands of the Mediterranean. A description of the location and history of each site is given, followed by an intriguing discussion of its biblical significance. Clearly written and in non-technical language, the work links the latest in biblical research with recent archaeological findings. A visit to the site is described, complete with easy-to-follow walking directions, indicating the major items of archaeological interest. Detailed site maps, historical charts, and maps of the regions are integrated into the text, and a glossary of terms is provided. Easy to use and abundantly illustrated, this unique guide will help visitors to Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus appreciate the rich history, significance, and great wonder of the ancient world of the Bible.
