Americium and Curium Chemistry and Technology

Americium and Curium Chemistry and Technology PDF Author: Norman M. Edelstein
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400954441
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 332

Book Description
The papers included in this volume were presented at the symposium on "Americium and Curium Chemistry and Technology" at the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies in Honolulu, Hawaii, December 16-21, 1984. This symposium commemorated forty years of research on americium and curium. Accordingly, the papers included in this volume begin with historical perspectives on the discovery of americium and curium and the early characterization of their chemical properties, and then cover a wide range of subjects, such as thermodynamic properties, electronic structure, nuclear reactions, analytic chemistry, high pressure phase transitions, and technological aspects. Thus, this volume is a review of the chemistry of americium and curium, and provides a perspective on the current research on these elements forty years after their discovery. The editors would like to thank the participants in this symposium for their contributions. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the assistance of Ms. Barbara Moriguchi in handling the administrative aspects of the symposium and of the production of this volume. April 2, 1985 Norman M. Heats of Reactions of Some Oxides of Americium and Praseodymium with Nitric Acid and an Estimate of the Potentials of the Am(III)-Am(IV) and Pr(III)-Pr(IV) Couples

Heats of Reactions of Some Oxides of Americium and Praseodymium with Nitric Acid and an Estimate of the Potentials of the Am(III)-Am(IV) and Pr(III)-Pr(IV) Couples PDF Author: LeRoy Eyring
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Americium
Languages : en
Pages : 24

Book Description
It has been shown previously that the potential of the Am(III)-Am(IV) couple in acid solution is more negative than -2.0v. The work described in this paper was undertaken for the purpose of evaluating the magnitude of the potential more precisely. It seems scarcely necessary to remark that an extensive correlation of the chemical properties of an element is possible when its oxidation potentials are known The chemistry of americium possesses special interest in that it is the first of the transuranium elements in which the stability of the tripositive state is comparable to that observed for some of the lanthanide elements.

The Chemistry of the Actinide and Transactinide Elements (3rd ed., Volumes 1-5)

The Chemistry of the Actinide and Transactinide Elements (3rd ed., Volumes 1-5) PDF Author: L.R. Morss
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402035985
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 4059

Book Description
The Chemistry of the Actinide and Transactinide Elements is a contemporary and definitive compilation of chemical properties of all of the actinide elements, especially of the technologically important elements uranium and plutonium, as well as the transactinide elements. In addition to the comprehensive treatment of the chemical properties of each element, ion, and compound from atomic number 89 (actinium) through to 109 (meitnerium), this multi-volume work has specialized and definitive chapters on electronic theory, optical and laser fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, organoactinide chemistry, thermodynamics, magnetic properties, the metals, coordination chemistry, separations, and trace analysis. Several chapters deal with environmental science, safe handling, and biological interactions of the actinide elements. The Editors invited teams of authors, who are active practitioners and recognized experts in their specialty, to write each chapter and have endeavoured to provide a balanced and insightful treatment of these fascinating elements at the frontier of the periodic table. Because the field has expanded with new spectroscopic techniques and environmental focus, the work encompasses five volumes, each of which groups chapters on related topics. All chapters represent the current state of research in the chemistry of these elements and related fields.
