Swedish Dissertations and their Subjects, 1600–1820 (Volume Two) PDF Author: Mattias Kärrholm
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004701508
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 682

Book Description
This book challenges earlier understandings of early modern dissertations as unimaginative academic exercises. It argues for their continuous importance in scholarly and scientific discourse, and describes the richness and diversity of their subjects and themes. The book contains a complete catalogue of the almost 20,000 Swedish dissertations defended in Uppsala, Lund and Åbo, 1600 to 1820. The catalogue includes longer comments and descriptions of a few thousand of these dissertations, and also gives an analysis of how different subjects have evolved over time.

Beyond the Feminization Thesis

Beyond the Feminization Thesis PDF Author: Patrick Pasture
Publisher: Leuven University Press
ISBN: 9058679128
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 241

Book Description
Case studies upon the use of concepts like feminization and masculinization in relation to christianity. Since the 1970s the feminization thesis has become a powerful trope in the rewriting of the social history of Christendom. However, this 'thesis' has triggered some vehement debates, given that men have continued to dominate the churches, and the churches themselves have reacted to the association of religion and femininity, often formulated by their critics, by explicitly focusing their appeal to men. In this book the authors critically reflect upon the use of concepts like feminization and masculinization in relation to Christianity.

The Catholic Philanthropic Tradition in America

The Catholic Philanthropic Tradition in America PDF Author: Mary J. Oates
Publisher: Indiana University Press
ISBN: 9780253113597
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
From their earliest days in America, Catholics organized to initiate and support charitable activities. A rapidly growing church community, although marked by widening church and ethnic differences, developed the extensive network of orphanages, hospitals, schools, and social agencies that came to represent the Catholic way of giving. But changing economic, political, and social conditions have often provoked sharp debate within the church about the obligation to give, priorities in giving, appropriate organization of religious charity, and the locus of authority over philanthropic resources. This first history of Catholic philanthropy in the United States chronicles the rich tradition of the church's charitable activities and the increasing tension between centralized control of giving and democratic participation.

HOW AMERICA BECAME ANTI-CHRISTIAN AND SELF-DESTRUCTIVE

HOW AMERICA BECAME ANTI-CHRISTIAN AND SELF-DESTRUCTIVE PDF Author: Dr. George Joseph K PhD
Publisher: GOD JESUS PROOF ACADEMY
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 377

Book Description
The American dream of a free world will be defeated, if Christianity will be defeated in USA. USA cannot survive unless the current perceptions of freedom and secularism undergo a drastic change. There is freedom to promote almost everything except the Christian truth. Ten Commandments are banned. But yoga is promoted at all levels. This kind of selective discrimination against the truth will destroy the very foundations of any society. Strange motivations of the anti-supernatural secularist lobby in the governmental institutions and their complicity in side-lining Christian faith cannot be ruled out. Thus ironically the undefeatable America tends to defeat itself. In its rejection of Christian truth and values, USA made truth a lie, and the lie a truth. If the current trends of self-hatred of Christian faith by higher criticism and liberal theology and destruction of churches continue, in 20 years USA will be overrun by the values and culture of Hinduism and Islam. And USA will go down in history as the most powerful empire, which had the best values in its custody since the days of its foundation, but subjected itself to a silent death, executed by its experts, and enjoyed by its people who went after thrillers, fantasies, romances, and other vain imaginations, neglecting the truth. Remember, it was the hatred to Christian values that instigated the anti-supernatural liberal theology from within and without the church, which ultimately resulted in the Nazi Holocaust. Beware, when the Christian faith and values are suppressed, the very survival of the societies at large, is endangered. This is the lesson of the entire world history.
