Intellectual Property Law of Canada - Second Edition

Intellectual Property Law of Canada - Second Edition PDF Author: Stuart C. McCormack
Publisher: Juris Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1578232643
Category : Intellectual property
Languages : en
Pages : 752

Book Description
This treatise on Canadian intellectual property law, written by members of the I.P. practice group of Stikeman, Elliott, is a comprehensive source for answering many of the I.P. questions that arise for both lawyers and corporate counsel. With technologies and new ideas driving today’s economy as never before, intellectual property is a key factor in business success. While intellectual property is especially vital for knowledge-based industries, its importance cuts across sectors as well as national boundaries. To meet this challenge, Stikeman, Elliott takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the practice. Their team comprises dynamic and highly creative professionals, including intellectual property, corporate and international trade lawyers, who bring a wide range of training and experience to every transaction. This expertise has been critical to businesses throughout Canada and around the world who want to preserve, protect and exploit their intellectual property to the fullest while reducing the risks of jeopardizing their intellectual property assets. In addition to this work being an eminently practical reference source, it also provides insightful practice commentaries and detailed analysis of all major intellectual property law subjects. In sum, the Intellectual Property Law of Canada is a publication that anyone with Canadian I.P. interests or questions should not be without.

The Federal Court of Canada

The Federal Court of Canada PDF Author: Ian Bushnell
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 1487586701
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 880

Book Description
The Federal Court of Canada, which existed from 1875 to 1971 under the name Exchequer Court of Canada, occupies a special place in the court structure of Canada. It was founded principally to adjudicate legal disputes in which the Canadian government was involved; since its change of name in 1971 it has become primarily an administrative appeal court dealing with the review of decisions made by federal administrative tribunals in addition to its existing jurisdictions, admiralty, intellectual property, tax, and other areas. As a federal court within the nation, its very existence has provoked discussion and debate as the various provincial court systems claim a position of primacy within our society for the adjudication of legal disputes. Central to this history of the Court is an examination of the judges who have sat on its bench. Bushnell investigates who the judges have been and examines their work, with particular focus on the judges' views of the proper approach to decision-making. His study contains a wealth of information, much of which may not be widely known in the profession. As such, The Federal Court of Canada constitutes a rich source both for those with a legal background and for those with an interest in the working and history of legal institutions.

Telecommunications in Canada

Telecommunications in Canada PDF Author: Robert E. Babe
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 9780802067388
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 396

Book Description
This study provides Canada's first comprehensive, integrated treatment of the emergence and development of key communication sectors: telegraph telephones, cable TV, broadcasting, communication satellites, and electronic publishing. By focusing on real institutions, actual (and frequently predatory) business practices, and law and regulatory policies, in both historical and contemporary perspectives, Babe helps demystify current communication issues. Stressing the flexibility of communication 'technologies' on the one hand, and the element of corporate power on the other, Babe reintroduces the principle of corporate/governmental responsibility for communication outcomes, a principle that has been largely drowned out by the shrill cries of 'Information Revolution.'
