He was the oldest child of Christian Knudsen and Anne Olesdatter. Maren was born 14 April 1854 in Denmark. She was the eighth child of Soren Mikkelsen and Kirsten Catrine Nielsdatter. Knud Christensen married Maren Sorensen 18 July 1875 in Denmark. They were the parents of eleven children. Descendants immigrated to America in the early 1900s and lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Texas, Oregon, Washington, California and elsewhere.
