Benjamin Richey (1823-1847) was born in Pickens County, Alabama, the second son of William and Margaret Adair Richey. The family migrated to a plantation in Noxubee County, Mississippi, ca. 1831. The family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1844 and migrated to Nauvoo, Illinois. After members of the Church were driven out of Nauvoo, Benjamin joined the Mormon Battalion. He was well on the Battalion's long journey to California but became ill there. He died at Cusdaddeles, Angeles, California.
