Technology, Organization and Economic Structure

Technology, Organization and Economic Structure PDF Author: R. Sato
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642483275
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 206

Book Description
The essays in this volume were presented to Professor Isamu Yamada in honor of his seventy-third birthday. In view of his many professional contributions and associations, a single volume of essays is really insufficient to house the works of all those who wish to be part of a venture of this kind. Therefore, the editors would like to apologize to those friends and well-wishers of Professor Yamada who could not be accommodated in this volume. Born in Nagoya in 1909, Professor Yamada began his brilliant career at Nagoya Commercial College where he studied economics, statistics, mathematics and physics. After serving as a Professor of Economics and Statistics at Yokohama College between 1939-1940, Professor Yamada moved to Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, where he served as a Professor of Econometrics until his retirement in 1973. Currently, he is teaching at Asia University as a Professor of Economics and Statistics. During his long tenure at Hitotsubashi University (where Professor Ichiro Nakayama, a "Japanese Schumpeter", served as President of the University), Professor Yamada was instrumental in introducing several generation of students to the methods of modern econometrics. One of the editors (Ryuzo Sato) of this volume is a direct beneficiary of his lectures on modern econometric techniques. In the 1950's, Professor Yamada was one of several prominent Japanese economists who were selected for study abroad. It was during this time, on a visit to the Cowles Commission at the University of Chicago, that Professor Yamada met the other editor of this volume.

Technology, Organization, and Competitiveness

Technology, Organization, and Competitiveness PDF Author: Giovanni Dosi
Publisher: OUP Oxford
ISBN: 0191521868
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 357

Book Description
This book brings together the work of leading international thinkers working in the overlapping areas of economics, organization studies, business history, corporate strategy, and innovation. There is a growing awareness that the perspectives of a single discipline are unable to capture and explain the complexities and dynamics of firm behaviour, organizational structure, and corporate strategy. All the chapters in this book are drawn from the pioneering journal Industrial and Corporate Change opening up the inter-disciplinary coverage of the journal to a wider readership. Here readers will find extensive and original contributions from economists Oliver Williamson, Richard Nelson, and Martin Fransman; sociology and organization theorists Mark Granovetter and Gary Hamilton; business historians William Lazonick and Jonathan West; innovation scholars Parimal Patel, Keith Pavitt, and Giovanni Dosi; and business strategists David Teece and Gary Pisano. This book will be vital reading for all those who want to get to grips with the best of current international thinking on the dynamic interplay of technology, organization, and competition.

The Institutional Foundations of the Digital Economy in the 21st Century

The Institutional Foundations of the Digital Economy in the 21st Century PDF Author: Elena G. Popkova
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110651769
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
The development of the Digital Economy has been a landmark breakthrough for economic systems in the 21st century, as it opens up opportunities for the full-scale implementation of new digital technologies and the optimization of economic activities. While the conceptual essence and specific features of the digital economy are described in detail in the existing literature, the practical foundations of its formation are poorly studied. In this book, the digital economy is studied from the perspective of neo-institutional economic theory. This allows for the tracking of the process of formation (institutionalization) of the digital economy, determining the basic institutions that are necessary for its formation and that exist in modern economic practice, and analyzing scenarios for the future development of the digital economy in the 21st century.
