Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 164
Book Description
This collection of essays consists of papers addressed to sessions held as part of the Semi-Centennial Convocation of the Western Michigan College of Education, held on April 1-2, 1954 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Authorized by legislation in 1903, the Western State Normal School was originally founded to fulfill a teacher shortage and the lack of training opportunities in West Michigan. The school was renamed several times throughout its early history, beginning with Western State Teachers College in 1927, Michigan College of Education in 1941, and Western Michigan College in 1955. The addresses presented at the convocation both celebrated the history of the school, its success in its mission of advancing the state of teacher training, and looked forward to future progress for the teaching profession.
