It's All Left up to Time

It's All Left up to Time PDF Author: Marilyn Myers
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 147975837X
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 100

Book Description
I believe you can learn a lot from poetry. Many times, it is a mood, feeling or emotion the author experiences. Sometimes, it helps to know you arent the only person who feels a certain way. My selections are an explanation of the highs and lows of relationships. Sometimes it makes me wonder if things will ever get on the right track, but I try to take an optimistic view, and thing that everything happens for a reason. That reason is usually for the better. I can imagine, but I cant predetermine how life will turn out; no human can know exactly what will happen. We estimate, but we cant know for certain. We waste our time worrying over things that we cant change, because we dont have control over those things. The things we have control over, we dont usually try to change. Many times, we have a hard time accepting what has happened in our lives. I know I do and I have to tell myself, Dont argue with a stop sign. You cant beat it. Some things just are what they are. If I make a mistake, I feel that I can learn from that mistake.

ISBN: 1135528225
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 426

Book Description
Comprehensive and up-to-dateThe first contemporary publication to go beyond examining broad themes and trends in the field, this timely volume looks closely at specific authors and texts. The book is comprehensive and as current as possible, covering works by African American authors for young adults published between 1968-1993-some 200 titles by close to 50 writers. In addition to established authors and bestselling titles, the coverage includes material overlooked by previous studies, such as works from small presses and talented new authors.Guidlines for evaluationAn extensive introduction reviews important milestones in this body of literature and analyzes noteworthy bibliographical and critical publications about such writing. It includes suggested guidelines for evaluating a work in terms of its direct and indirect treatment of such issues as race, gender, class, ability, age, sexuality, and sexual orientation. The book also offers specific guidance for determining the appropriate readership for a work with regard to age and gender.Unusually extensive annotationsThe main body of the book is an annotated bibliography, alphabetical by author, with the works arranged chronologically by publication date. The annotations are much more extensive than those in other bibliographies. Each annotation reads more like a full-length book review and is from one to two pages long and explores themes, plot and character development, evaluates the quality of the writing, judges the handling of issues of race, class, and gender, and provides a readership recommendation.Written in accessible language, this user-friendly book presents a wide range of factual information, evaluations, and analyses. It is a valuable tool for all teachers, librarians, counselors, and young adults

Book Description
Franz Anton Mesmer's concept of animal magnetism exercised a profound influence on key European and American thinkers. Mesmer, who saw in his discovery the secret of health, had hoped to recover the harmony between man and nature by harnessing the power of magnetic fluids. In calling attention to the existence of a second self that surfaces in the hypnotic trance, Mesmer made his real contribution and took the first, decisive steps on the road leading to the unconscious. While most critical studies of mesmerism originate in the history of science or medicine, Maria Tatar's book takes a fresh approach by tracing the impact of mesmerism on literature. The author launches her account with a portrait of Mesmer and places his views in the context of eighteenth-century thought. She then explores the significance of Mesmer's ideas and studies their influence on nineteenth-century German, French, and American writers. In conclusion, she examines the ways in which modern authors absorbed and reshaped the mesmerist legacy bequeathed to them by earlier generations. Whether discussing the electrical energy vibrating through Kleist's dramas, the electrical heat radiating from Hoffmann's figures, the streams of magnetic fluid coursing through Balzac's novels, or the magnetic chain of humanity linking Hawthorne's characters, Professor Tatar recaptures the meaning of ideas, motifs, and metaphors often overlooked by literary critics. Her study illuminates, in a remarkable way, the subtle connections between science, psychology, and literature. Originally published in 1978.
