Book Description
As the Nation's principle conservation agency, the Department of the Interior has basic responsibilities for water, fish, wildlife, mineral, land, park, and recreational resources. Interior, America's 'Department of Natural Resources, ' works to assure the wisest choice in managing all of our resources so that each will make it's fully contribution to a better United States -- now and in the future. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is part of the United States Department of the Interior. Its responsibilities encompass 272 million acres of public lands and administration and management of approximately 300 million acres of mineral rights. It also maintains the legal status for 331 million acres of reservations created from public lands, such as the national parks, national wildlife refuges, and national forests ... To manage these resources, the Bureau must be able to accurately identify and locate the increasingly valuable areas of land with which it has been entrusted. BLM's Cadastral Survey Program is responsible for the creation, restoration, marking and defining the boundaries of these lands. Cadastral Survey is also responsible for the official boundary surveys for all federal agencies who together manage over 700 million acres of land.

This is a book about boundary surveying. It is written for anyone who is interested in how surveys are performed. The book is also for land surveying students who are interested in developing an overall view of how land surveyors go about surveying a parcel of land. Surveys and Surveyors of the Public Domain, 1785-1975

Surveys and Surveyors of the Public Domain, 1785-1975 PDF Author: Lola Cazier
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Government publications
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
"Cadastral surveys are performed to create, mark, and define, or to retrace the boundaries between abutting land owners, and, more particularly, between land of the Federal Government and private owners or local governments. As referred to here, cadastral surveys were performed only by the General Land Office during its existence and by the Bureau of Land Management. The Bureau of Land Management is the only agency that is currently authorized to determine the boundaries of the public lands of the United States. Proper understanding of the basis for performance of cadastral surveys includes an understanding of the history of the public land surveys. An understanding of that history requires some consideration of the people who performed these surveys and of the people whose land was affected by them. These chapters were written to be used as an aid in training cadastral surveyors in the application of surveying principles. The learner is expected to gain from the factual material on survey laws and their formation, as well as from a study of the people who performed the surveys. Many of the men who had an important role in the history of cadastral surveying are still living, but only those who have retired are included in the present document."--Foreword.
