Book Description
"This report describes the design, organization, and capabilities of a new U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI) Warfighting Experimentation Lab at Fort Benning, Georgia. It was developed to provide the ARI staff with a reach forward ability in training research. As the DoD Training Transformation (T2) gets underway, the Army is now working on its transformation as an ongoing perpetual function. Because of the flux inherent in perpetual transformation, many of its proposed future developments are and will continue to be abstract with varying kinds and amounts of related empirical data. Thus there was a need for the Warfighting Experimentation Lab to provide a flexible simulation environment in which researchers can examine proposed and evolving tactical technologies and innovations. A major design consideration for the ARI facility was to mirror the equipment in the Infantry School's own Simulation Center, using parallel surrogate equipment. "--Stinet.

European Decolonization 1918–1981: An Introductory Survey

European Decolonization 1918–1981: An Introductory Survey PDF Author: Robert F. Holland
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1349177733
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 329

Book Description
One of the most dramatically significant themes of the twentieth century has been the decline and final dismemberment of the European colonial empires. This book outlines the general features which influence this decline and, by concentrating on a series of case studies, emphasises the varieties of experience within this broad historical process. While primarily concerned with events in the British Empire, the largest of the imperial systems, Dr Holland also considers developments in the French, Belgian, Dutch and Portuguese dependencies. The chronologically arranged sections focus on the sources of weakness in the European empires between 1918 and 1939; the impact of the Second World War; the upheavals of the post-war crisis; the move to decolonization in the later 1950's and early 1960's; and the subsequent realignment of relations between advanced and non-advanced nations. The aim of this study is to provide an introductory text for sixth form and university students on a vital dimension of change within international relationships in twentieth century.

Geo-trekking in Ethiopia’s Tropical Mountains

Geo-trekking in Ethiopia’s Tropical Mountains PDF Author: Jan Nyssen
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030049558
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 678

Book Description
This book is based on over 150 scientific papers about the Dogu’a Tembien district in Ethiopia. To reach a broader public of people interested in geosites and human-environment interactions, the authors here add a geoguide about this mountain district in Ethiopia(13°30’ N, 39°10’ E; upto 2850 m high) which shows a varied lithology. A large team has carried out research in that district over the past 23 years, including long stays in the areas. Numerous viewpoints and geosites are only accessible on foot; hence the authors prepared the book as a trekking guide, which will enhance sustainable tourism in the same time. This edited work summarises the study results in the international literature into a comprehensive book, which comprises 35 thematic chapters, detailed description of 573 km of trekking routes to access the landscape and the most scenic excursion points, as well as the necessary logistical information. A state-of-the-art trekking map is included as a digital annex.

A Phoenician-Punic Grammar

A Phoenician-Punic Grammar PDF Author: Charles R. Krahmalkov
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004294201
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 333

Book Description
Carefully selected examples from texts and dialects of the whole Phoenician-Punic period bring to life the grammatical description of this language. Included are fully vocalized Punic and Neo-Punic inscriptions of Roman Tripolitiana in Latin orthography as well as the literary fragments of Punic drama as found in Plautus' comedy Poenulus. This classical descriptive grammar of the Phoenician-Punic language (1200 BCE - 350 CE) presents the reader with a full picture: its phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax and usage. Its history and its various dialects are dealt with in an introduction. Hebraists and Semitists will find the description of the verbal system of particular interest to them, especially that of the literary language, which holds that tense and aspect reference of a given form of the verb is largely a function of syntax, not morphology. Much of this grammatical material is presented here for the first time.
