En Mxico la normatividad ambiental en materia de contaminantes de suelos establece que para identificar zonas contaminadas por elementos potencialmente txicos (EPTs) se debe tomar en cuenta la variabilidad de las concentraciones de fondo a travs del territorio (NOM-147-SEMARNAT/SSA1-2004). No obstante, ante la carencia de datos duros a nivel nacional, y la creciente necesidad de los mismos, se requiere de un procedimiento de bajo costo que sirva como primer proveedor de datos generales para la toma de decisiones de autoridades ambientales. En funcin de esto, en este trabajo se propone una metodologa para determinar de manera sencilla y econmica el grado de peligrosidad en suelos por EPTs, as como una valoracin cualitativa del riesgo ambiental, mediante el clculo del valor de fondo y concentracin de umbral, tal como lo establece la normatividad.
