Sunny Days Inside

Sunny Days Inside PDF Author: Caroline Adderson
Publisher: Groundwood Books Ltd

Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 110

Book Description
When the “grownup virus” hits, kids who live in the same apartment building must cope with strange new rules and extended time at home with parents and siblings. And they survive brilliantly, each in their own way. Twin boys throw themselves into an independent research assignment on prehistoric people and embrace their own devolution. A budding track star is encouraged to run laps on his balcony by a neighbor who has a secret crush on him. A classroom troublemaker reaches out to a teacher when his own father begins to exhibit signs of mental illness. A young entrepreneur saves himself and his hairdresser mother from financial collapse by renting out the family dog. And a girl finds a way to communicate with her hearing-impaired neighbor so that they can spy on the rest of the building. The stories follow the course of the pandemic, from the early measures through lockdown, as the kids in the building observe the stresses on the adults around them and use their own quirky kid ingenuity to come up with ways to make their lives better. Funny, poignant and wise, this book will long outlive even the pandemic. Book Description
My life has been a complex journey, and you may wonder at what point I was driven as a middle-aged woman to pack my bags, travel halfway across the world to China to teach English, not even speaking the native language, and all this right at the beginning of a pandemic. You may be correct in thinking perhaps I was insane. However, I was also opportunistic, hopeful, and somehow lost, chasing a dream to fill my soul. When my son, Callum, passed away in 2015 at the age of only 18, I was so destroyed that I could not see beyond my grief and inconceivable loss, and all of what life was and what I knew was shattered. I had no desire to wake each day. I withdrew for many years and focused on keeping my mind active and blocking out almost everything and everyone as a coping mechanism. I constantly worked, studied and gained numerous qualifications, facilitated volunteer programmes and established a foundation; all of this back-to-back in a short timeframe. I was consistently evolving, but I was exhausted, both mentally and emotionally; avoiding the grief took so much energy. With the loss of Callum and the path that I have been forced to walk upon, I discovered an innate desire and determination to travel to China and teach. Callum led me to all my achievements, and I hope that he will be proud of all that I have established. On my return to Australia, I decided to write this book and share the experience of my journey, which for the most part, was a challenge but also a heart-warming experience at times and one that taught me so much about resilience and strength. Being a foreigner in an unfamiliar country really opened my eyes to the challenges immigrants face and just how difficult it is to adjust. I hope you will read my story with an open heart, and I encourage you to step beyond your limitations and find your dream.

Book Description
Death. It happens every day. It's not an unusual event. It takes place in other people's lives. Then one day it knocks on your door and your world is smashed into a thousand tiny pieces in an instant. - Has this happened to you? - Do you feel lost and alone? - Do you feel there is no escape from the pain? Susan Ross, author of Hey Mum, It's Me, answered yes to all these questions when her eldest son, Jamie, was killed in a motor vehicle accident. Hey Mum, It's Me is a first-person memoir about life, death, and spirituality. It tells the story of the author's life, the loss of her son, and his communication to her after his death. It changed the focus of her career path. It examines death and grief and gives suggestions on how to put the shattered pieces back together in a new pattern so life can be lived again. Grief is the price we pay for loving someone. This book will show how to honour your grief and will help you feel you are not alone.
